He can do a lot of things in this offense because he can run outside and he can catch but what he's really here for is exasctly what we saw on that last drive. Get the tough yards on the ground. We lacked a back who could do that last year and it cost us at times.

He's about the only player on my offseason shopping list that JA did get.
What I like about Barber is that he can fool a defense. You can bring him in for a short yardage situation and the defense will assume the ball is going to him and it'll set up a great play-action scenario. And he can catch the ball too. He's a good addition. Now if we can only get Bennett healthy. Cutler REALLY misses that guy.

Don't know if you caught it but on one play they had Barber flanked out in the slot. If he can stay healthy and average 4 YPC on the tough carries we got ourselves a winner. Much better prospects for it than last year. Taylor is not a power runner like Barber is. I thought we should have drafted him when he came out of college. Definitely a Bears type back.

In what world do you honestly see the Bears running 30 times a game on a regular basis? Next week we may only get 15 again knowing Martz

If yesterday didn't open Martz's eyes, nothing will. And hopefully Lovie remembers he's the head coach and reminds Martz that "we get off the bus running."

Lovie is a defense minded coach, he let's the OC handle the offense. But I doubt Martz has twice as many runs as passes next week. In fact I would be surprised if it was even close to even

I know it's pointless to argue with "experts" but just this once consider something beyond emotional attachment to players.

Thomas Jones play in 2004 was so suspect that it forced Angelo to expend a Top5 draftpick to replace him. Do you realize how difficult it is to get Phillips to sign off on a Top 5 overall in this day and age? Why do you think they keep trading down? Nobody wants to pay the ridiculously inflated rate the top of the draft is bringing for unproven players, half or more of whom wind up as busts anyway.

Jones was signed to play a totally different scheme, a failed scheme. A Top 5 pick was drafted to supplant him. A wall-to-wall veteran O lne was installed to protect the QB from the record 66 sacks recorded against Shea's scheme in 2004.

With a Top 5 overall pushing him from behind, and the best O line FA money could reasonably buy in 2005, of course Jones produces decent numbers. Nothing special, not an 1800 yard season by any means. Not a great average. Not a great average in special situations. Just a standard run-of-the-mill performance by a modern RB.

Angelo replaced Jones when he determined Jones wasn't special. He went public with that sentiment. Jones knows his days are limited in Chicago, hence he's a problem. He's a problem that won't go away because Benson isn't healthy.

Angelo is controlling the depth chart, and making Lovie's job exceedingly difficult at this point. Angelo cannot keep Grossman propped up while seeing Lovie supporting Jones. There's a lot of money being spent by Phillips on Griese and Benson, many times more than on Jones and Grossman.

Angelo is keeping Grossman propped up because he's high profile. Grossman will probably have to be carted off or put up a Hutchinson rating to lose his job, unless the dissent becomes simply to great. Angelo cannot justify to Phillips that all the money is sitting on the bench (Griese and Benson) while Grossman and Jones play. Who will win out? I think Angelo wins, of course. Until the team loses a division game. Then it's Katy-bar-the-door.

According to this old-fart, (1800) yard seasons make ELITE RB...LOL...!!! God I miss the senile old goat...!!!

sadly a lot of that could be said today. QB needing to be propped up, backups being paid more then the starters. no respect for the starting rb.
