Just Love That BALANCED OFFENSE of your Mike!..............
What one thing stood out all week long? That we needed more a balanced game plan and better play calling! So how did 37 passes against only 12 runs meet that objective? Martz won't even keep his word on that. I'm telling you guys he's a full blown loony and he needs to be fired now. Not in January, NOW!
If you have the means go back and watch how confidently the Packers play their offense. How much patience they demonstrate and how they set up mismatches to take advantage of. Finley, on Jennings and Steltz. Finley on Briggs (nice coverage Lance). Greg Jennings almost anywhere on the field. Given time Rodgers finds these guys, knows they'll get open and knows they'll make the catch. When they wanted to kick it up a notch they did. It looked almost effortless.
Now watch the Bears offense. Cutler has no confidence that his receivers will break on the ball when they're supposed to, finish their routes coming back for the ball and shielding the catch, or fighting for it downfield in coverage. Yeah I'm talking to you Roy Williams you lazy fvckin' bastard! If Jay doesn't lay in right on your hands you sure aren't gonna go out of your way for it are you? Prick!
Drops by virtually everyone and most in crucial spots. Heal fast Mr. Bennett your hands and spot on routes are badly needed. The rookie is outplaying the other three right now yet he's still playing no better than a #3 guy. Hester seldom gets separation against these guys and when Knox does he can't hold a perfect pass. Both the those picks came on throws to RWill and did anyone see him adjust and go up and fight for the ball? One the second he just plain old fashioned quit on his route when he saw that Safety behind him and knew he'd have to go up and expose himself in order to even have a chance at it. So he just let it sail past him into the Safties waiting arms rather than take a chance on getting hit.
This offense will absolutely not work with these guys and Martz's game plans and play calling. Either they go back to a structure like they did later last year or we end up losing half our games if not more. You can't even beat bad teams with no running game and a 62% to 38% TOP imbalance. How in the hell could Lovie just stand there and let him do it again this week???? It doesn't look like it's gonna change, I'm fed up and by the looks of it so is most of the offense who are being forced to play a "we can't win" game every week. Show me where the fire and flame was in any of those guys on Sunday.
I didn't think it was possible for this offense to worse this year than last but I think I've changed my mind. Last year teams weren't quite sure of what we couldn't do but this year they know it.

Yeah...a Balanced offense only works when you can actually RUN THE BALL. 1 yard per rush isnt gonna cut it. So instead of 12 rushes for 13 yards, if they ran it 50 times, theyd probably get 52 yards. 53 if theyre lucky.

A big reason the running didn't work is because many of the run plays took too damn long to develop. Stop pulling guards and maybe run some zone or quick iso's and let these guys hit some holes. Downhill Mike, get it going downhill.

I know a couple of those plays they pulled Williams and he effed up his job (guess he really is better at Tackle) and it lead to losses for Forte. But i also seem to recall some regular ISOs where Forte just ran into a wall of defenders...right at the LoS. Same story last week in NO.

Exactly. There has to be good push at angles that create the ability to move a lineman around to a different spot. We aren't getting it. Start over w/ good ole fashioned beating the guy in front of you.

If I recall correctly, the plays where Williams wiffed on his pulls, he needed to adjust his track to go deeper since Matthews was crashing hard. Normally, you teach a guard to stay as tight to the line as possible when pulling and that's what he was doing, without reacting properly. He has the athleticism to get the job done. It's a technique thing. I doubt Williams had ever pulled along the line like that until last season... another reason I thought his move was a bad idea. Personally, I would never have called that play with Matthews crashing down like that... unless I could get him spaced out wider by using a TE and widening splits. I also would have started rolling out the pocket to stop that nonsense from happening in the first place.
There may have been a couple plays designed to hit the hole quickly, but most I recall (as if 9 is a large sample for us to really discuss) took too long to develop and they asked our linemen to hold their blocks for a while. I'm not going to say the line isn't without fault, but the coaches aren't innocent either. They need to adjust. I still think we need to start moving the pocket and use play action in the form of roll outs. If I were Martz, I'd hate playing for him on the line. The guy is acting like he has Pace, Timmerman, and those guys out there. He's not getting it, you can't run this crap with a subpar o-line.

I'm worried that these linemen are so bad that they couldn't even do the basics right even if that's all you expected of them. It's very difficult to beat the man infront of you when he's better than you.

Exactly. The Packers were gaining yardage up the middle with simple cutbacks off straight ahead man on man or zone blocking whereas Martz is pulling CWill to block Matthews and he was whiffing on them. That's the price we paid for having to play OMG. If Carimi had been playing RT the run blocking would have been better and on top of that Spencer is not a great run blocker either. Everytime we ran left if was the backside of the line that caught Forte before he could even move.
Where in the hell were Bell and Barber? Forte is a long strider and he's got to have room to run. He's not elusive enough to make something out of nothing and he doesn't have the power that either of the others have. So if the run's not working with Forte why not sub a change of pace back with a different style. Starks runs a lot like Forte and him we bottled for negative yardage. It was Grant with his cutback runs that caused the damage. That's what good field coaching does and we don't and never have had it.
