I was with you all the way up to this. We sure as hell can bench him. He's caught two passes so far this year and out of the 4 times he was targeted last Sunday two were picked. We posted chapter and verse on this guys drops and other deficiencies right after we signed him and he's living up to all of that big time. The only other thing big time about him is his mouth and a bad attitude.

Start Knox and Bennett and we'd be far better off. Martz was saying in the preseason how both Hurd and Sanz learned the routes for all three receivers spots. Those two guys want to play so put them out there and let them earn their way into the lineup. Williams is done. He's gone after this year and hopefully Martz will go with him. The move to sign Williams should be one of the biggest I told you so's in Jerry Angelo's career. Maybe he can carry his bags to the airport along with Martz and Williams. Those are three guys I want nowhere near this team in 2013.

there are other things williams does. As much as he is a liability as a catcher he still opens it up for the others and he blocks better then the others. Not a fan of his but its not like the back ups inspire anything

When he troubles himself with it, maybe. One of the things Sam Hurd was touted on besides his ST stuff was that he was a very good downfield blocker from the WR spot. You almost figure he'd have to have some serious open field blocking skills to be a 4 way ST star.

Hurd and Williams are similar in size and I don't doubt but what Hurd may actually have better wheels. The main point is that the guy wants to play and spoke about earning his spot in the WR rotation as soon as he arrived here. What Theismann says about RWill is true. He plays like he expects to be a starter not because he's earned it. Bench him until he does and if that never happens it's just fine with me.

idk soul there is no easy answer to this debacle. There is no Sidney Rice type talent on this roster. Everyone has their limitations

I would still maintain that this offense can work without a true #1 WR but for that to happen Martz has to compromise his game plans and get his ass of the Roy Williams train. Here's my formula for whatwever that's worth.

Start Knox and SE and Bennett at Flanker getting him on the field full time rather than just as a slot guy in 3 WR sets. Move Hester into the slot to take advantage of some major league mismatches. On the outside all the have to do is bump him with bigger CB's to contain him. That throws off his timing and wrecks his routes. Typically he'd be up against smaller slower NB's in the slot. If they move their #1 CB to cover him then that leaves their #3 guy on either Bennett and his size and hands or Knox and his speed.

Sanz and Hurd now become the Wild Card guys since both can line up at any of the three spots. Hurd gives Cutler his taller target and Sanz his sneaky but dependable one. You noticed that it was Sanz he went to on the goaline the last two games. Hurd has the size to go over the middle like Bennett and the speed to get into some of the downfield routes as well. From what I've seen of him a a gunner the guy has good speed and he's tough. He also has the rep of being a good blocker. So there's big target number one.

Now the last element is the biggest compromise for Martz. He's got to start throwing to Davis up the seam and on intermediate curls like he did last Sunday. Most teams aren't expecting it right now so when he does use him it usually gains yardage and with his size and strength some YAC as well. After watching him on that TD last Sunday there's nopt much, if anything he can't do as a receiver that Olsen could. You probably can't flank him out wide like they could with Olsen but he's a hell of a lot tougher to bring down. He has to start taking advantage of that. Cutler is used to haiving a TE 10-12 yards out to throw to so there's big target number two and he's 2" taller and 20 lbs heavier than Olsen was.

I'd make RWill inactive every damn week until he either quit or got his game on. The biggest mistake Martz made (actually the bigger one was JA giving inm an signing him) was to annoint his as his #1 WR without so much as having to even put on the pads. It was an insult to Knox and gave Williams absolutley no motivation whatsoever to fight for his spot. That would be a mistake with most guys but with Williams it was a huge mistake. He needs to earn his spot not believe he deserves it just because he's Roy Williams. I really don't like this guy. Can you tell?

That's all we can do for now and it's whole purpose is to put the best of a very mediocre lot on the field at their best positions and also get the TE involved. As long as we can throw successfully to Davis and Forte we can make it work with the others. They can't cover 4 or 5 guys all of the time. If Cutler gets some time and Martz stops making every play a deep drop somebody is gonna be open downfield, in the seam, or underneath. More play action, designed rollouts, and some screens. Screw the reverses and that wildcat crap. They don't fool anyone and never work.

There are two bigger WR's in next years draft worth looking at as the year goes by. Michael Floyd from Notre Dame and Nick Toon (Al Toon's kid) out of the U of Wisconsin. Both 6'2"-6'3" 220-225 lb guys with 4.5 speed. Were not looking for a burner here just a guy with size and hands. Right now Floyd ranks as a mid 1st round pick and Toon a high 2nd. Somewhere along the line we have to spend a high pick on the position if we're ever gonna develop our own #1 guy.

Wow you mean Martz finally grew some balls and benched his boy? About time! Maybe this is the beginning of the end for RWill. I would think they'd have a hard time shelling out the money they offered him to play him as a backup. As crappy as he's been so far we can do without him.

It hurts to lose Harris but at least they're keeping Wright and Steltz away from playing FS. Meriweather isn't gonna make up for the loss of Harris but at least he has some experience playing deep. I hope having Barber back will help generate some improvement in the running game. Throwing the ball 40 times a game won't cut it. We should't be throwing more than 25 passes a game.

Bears' Harris out; Knox gets call over Williams

By Vaughn McClure, Tribune reporter 10:52 a.m. CDT, October 2, 2011

Chicago Bears safety Chris Harris is inactive as expected for Sunday's game against Carolina as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury, while receiver Johnny Knox will start ahead of Roy Williams for the second consecutive week.

    • Harris should be well enough to play in next Monday night's game at Detroit. With Harris sidelined Sunday, Brandon Meriweather and Major Wright will be the starting safeties (Wright at strong safety and Meriweather at free).

Also inactive for the Bears are tackle Gabe Carimi (knee), tight end Matt Spaeth (calf), receiver Earl Bennett (chest), defensive end Mario Addison, defensive tackle Stephen Paea, and quarterback Nathan Enderle.

Carimi, who suffered a knee dislocation, is expected to be back in the lineup for the Oct. 16 matchup with the Vikings, according to a team source.

With Spaeth out, undrafted rookie Kyle Adams becomes the second tight end.

Running back Marion Barber will make his Bears debut Sunday after sitting out the first three games with a calf injury.

For the Panthers, cornerback Chris Gamble (concussion) is out while right tackle Jeff Otah will start coming off back issues.

LOL, everything would have been to trade ours and 10 years of first round picks to the Packers for their offense.
