Whether the numbers are correct or not, or if there is a source on what each side wants, not having Forte resigned is a mistake.

We have 19 million in cap space and we should resign Forte and use that space to take care of the Forte signing bonus.

Resign Forte for 6 years 40 million with 21 guaranteed.

We put 15 million of it on this years cap only leaving us 6 years and 25 million left on the contract at 4 million a season.

If the idiot loses Forte or trades him I'll come back to Chicago and castrate him myself. 72% of the total offensive yardage that's ridiculous. I kow where he can come up with another mil right now. Cut RWill skinny ass and give the savings to Forte as a thank you for not being a dickhead and holding out. We'd be 0-4 without him.

Three things tell me that he won't even come close to that. Number one is that in a one time only deal NFL teams can carry their cap excesses into next year so there's no use it or lose it this year. That is not in Forte's favor.

Number two is that the Bears have others in the final year of rookie deals too as well as having signed guys like Okoye and Meriweather for only one year. Undoubtedly they'll want to keep those two if their play continues to be solid so that adds to the outflow and shrinkage of that cap excess.

Number three is that a few other core players like Harris, Garza and Roach are also up for extensions. If we intend to keep some or all of those guys we'll need to address that too. We don't want another Olin Kruetz deal again this year.

What I see JA doing is using some of that cap excess to cherry pick the cheaper deals with guys who probably won't command big offers from FA and then play a wait and see game with a player like Forte knowing that he can always franchise him in 2012 if he has to. He won't do that with the others as far as I can tell. The only time he's ever done it before was with Briggs and I can't see anyone else other than Forte being considered crucial enough to franchise.

I like your thoughts on it though. Could work if we didn't have these others and if the pressure was on to use it or lose it as far as that cap excess goes.
