Our DC sucks more than our OC yet he has 3 probowls on his side. How freaking stupid is Rod, well for starters I would have double teamed Steve Smith. I would have blitzed the shit out of Cam if I were the DC. Other than that it was a great win for the bears.
JA you are still a dipshit but sign Matt Forte to an extension.

and Martz finally found the missing section of his playbook that had all his running plays.
Either that or Lovie had Tice pull out everything BUT his running plays which forced him to actually think and have to improvise play calls in order to pass. At least that what it seemed like. Ah, classic Bears football again.

Honestly, and I know this is speculation (and a negative one at that, which is unlike me) but I think it was more of Martz trying to prove that the run isn't as effective and everyone needs to shut their mouths. So he comes out with a whole drive of run plays, expecting it to fail so he can go back to passing. Because obviously he wants to prove that he was right by not running, etc. The only thing was that it backfired. That entire series was successful run after successful run, and even when one didn't go for much, it was made up and three plays always let to a first down. I think that's why he was pissed at the end of the game. He wasn't right.

Yes to both. In fact I posted an article by Matt Bowen last night that showed a great blitz with 6 guys in coverage and 5 rushers. (Either an OLB or a NB as the 5th) I never saw them do exactly that though so apparently Marinelli doesn't read my posts or Matt Bowen's column, LOL.
I think Bowen hit the nail on the head and it's exactly what you're talking about. In order to double Smith we'd have needed more than 5 DB's or their TE's would have had a field day over the middle. So, you go to 6 DB's, or 5 w/Urlacher who can cover like a Safety, with a 3 deep shell so you always have one guy on him and one guy over the top of him. You blitz the NB off the weak side and if the TE goes out you cover him with the LB or the DE. If not you bring all 5 guys on the rush.
Actually it's not that we got no pressure on Newton it's just that he's so tall he threw over the inside rush and rolled away from the outside rush. The guys a beast. A DE size, athletic QB with an arm. Just imagine Julius Peppers as a QB, LOL.
But yeah, leaving Jennings to cover Smith all by his lonesome just about cost us the game.

And steve smith is no calvin johnson. That guy catches everything within 10 yards of him, and that included vertically.

I could buy into that very easily my brother. With anyone else I'd say that you were one toke over the line but with Martz you could very well be right. He was quoted as saying that we'd run because in his words, "we can always do that" but you know how much of what comes out of his mouth I believe.
It's actually funny that you should say that because by the beginning of the 4th Q they were starting to defense the run so it was time to start playaction and rollouts of the pay fake but it never came. That began to frustrate me as much as too much passing. Personally I think that Martz either has a screw loose or a very definite personality disorder but I'm not ever getting into my theories on mental illness around here again except for my own, LOL.

lol, I don't blame you.
I know you don't have any respect for Martz, and neither do I, really. He's just not able to mix it up at all, or make in game calls. Obviously if you pound the ball on a team, and they start to adjust to it, you can burn them with PA. The same with the draw play, etc. He's just not able to read defenses or predict how they are going to react and call plays accordingly. It's why cutler cannot audible and there aren't many in game adjustments. He just doesn't have the ability to do so.
So the bottom line is that if his gameplan works, great. If it doesn't, then we're screwed.

This was not a confidence building win. We simply did not look very good in many aspects of the game.
A win is a win and we needed to go 2-2, but if we play like that against the Lions we are going to be in trouble.

I never have much respect for arrogant a$$holes but if I'll put up with them if they're productive like Parcells or Belicheck are. I think Mike Martz may be a brilliant theoretician when it comes to designing an offense but his understanding of his players abilties and the application of his offense with those guys stinks in my opinion.
One classic example of just what a poor match he is for this coaching staff and GM is when JA defended the Olsen trade by saying we wanted TE's like Ditka who were big, tough and could catch and block. Well Ditka set records for the number of passes he caught so when does Martz start throwing to Davis who actually looked like he could give Olsen a run for his money in that department. He may as well throw to him since he sucks at in line blocking.
Last year he had three talented pass catching TE's one of which was a very good blocker (Des Clark). So Des spends the year inactive while JA spends $7 mil getting him a guy (Manu) who couldn't do either and he rarely throws to the two he has who can catch even though they prove to be productive when he does. What kind of an idiot does that?
What kind of an idiot sends in pass play after pass play when you're QB is getting hammered every time he drops back? Isn't 9 sacks in one half some kind of NFL record and if they do put it in the record books shouldn't the attribute it to Martz and his play calling rather than Cutler who was mererly the victim of it?
Mike Martz is an anachronism in todays NFL and so is his vaunted offense at least so far as this team is concerned.

I agree w/you BDM, I even think some people were speculating, even if jokingly, in the chat room during the first drive. I think he hated how well it worked today, and thought it would be very much like last week where he would be able to abadon it and goto the pass. I said it at the end of the game, he looked very upset for a guy that just won a game.
