Tinoisamoa to work out Wednesday for Bears
By Vaughn McClure, Tribune reporter
11:56 AM CDT, October 4, 2011
The Chicago Bears will bring veteran linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa to Halas Hall for a workout Wednesday, two sources told the Tribune.
Tinoisamoa, who had major knee construction after the 2010 season, was expected to be recovered by October, so the timing is right on schedule. The 30-year-old linebacker has had at least three surgeries on his right knee.
If Tinoisamoa’s knee checks out, expect the Bears to sign him to a one-year contract, just as the team did before last season. Tinoisamoa started 10 games at strong-side linebacker during the 2010 season, recording 51 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.
The Bears are off Wednesday because of the extended preparation week heading into Monday night's game at Detroit.
The Bears need more depth at linebacker with just five on the 53-man roster, including undrafted rookie Dom DeCicco.
Nick Roach started the first four games at strong-side linebacker and wouldn’t be in immediate jeopardy of losing his job. But Tinoisamoa, if healthy, could press for playing time.
Tinoisamoa has played special teams in the past and could contribute there, too.
Linebacker Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs have spoken out in favor of Tinoisamoa in the past based on the energy level he brings to the field.

Hope he's close to 100% and makes the team

A healthy Pisa would be a welcome addition. Maybe he can defense a TE on the goaline because Briggs seems to be lacking in that regard. Pisa is far better in pass coverage than Briggs.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Too bad we can't just get a decent non-injured SLB in FA(because JA loves injury prone players and Pisa's time is about over), but everyone would complain that we should've spent more time on fixing the OL and CB positions. And, they would be right. I still wish we had Roosevelt Colvin, but I don't know how well he'd work in this defense (though with Jauron and the Pats, he had 12 sacks 2 years in a row)...

Hb can't over pay for the slb when we got two huge contracts at lb already
We need this guy to be healthy in a big way roach has been a pile of dung this season

When he's healthy, Pisa's a beast. A real thumper.

Henry, Colvin hasn't played since 2008 and the only years he had double digit sacks were when he was a Bear (10.5 each in 2001-2002). The best year he ever had with NE was 2006 when he had 8.5 sacks. Rosie was never the sack artist at NE that he was with the Bears. My guess is that the same thing will be true of Briggs if we trade him elsewhere after this season.
As it stands Rosie would not be a better choice than Pisa for this offense. The SLB in this defense needs to be proficient in pass coverage. In Jauron's the SLB was a rusher. Pisa can cover as well as any other LB we've got and I'll be glad to see him return if he's healthy.

I know Colvin hasn't played in years, but I was saying that I missed his prime years. Also, I don't really care for Lovie's use of the SLB. Guard the TE (which is ALWAYS amazing on this team) and make very few, if any plays? **** that. I'd rather have a LB that can blitz but is in the wrong system than some shitty 3rd rate like Pisa or Roach.

Hope he comes back to play for us at 100%
