I think this current frugality cost us in the attempt to attract good Olineman and WR's in FA, it cost us Olin Kruetz, and it's holding up Forte's extension.
I can't blame JA for screwing up getting Kreutz back; He took less money and later admitted that the Bears gave him a fair deal. I think he was just wanting a max amount of money to be on a sinking ship of an offensive line. He got less money to be anchored by two pro bowl guards, and it's working out better for him...

Yeah, Kreutz cost us Kreutz.
Bears gave him a fair deal.

I don't blame Kruetz for asking for more now as a small payback for taking much less earlier in his career but I also don't blame JA for saying no. What I do blame him for is wasting money like the $250k signing bonus he gave to Gholston when that money could have gone to Kruetz. Why give guaranteed $$$ to a pass rush specialist whose never had an NFL sack over the leader of your offensive line.
Both sides came away from it ok. Garza is doing well at OC and Kruetz doesn't have to do it all himself in NO. It's more about the point I'm making and just using it as an example. There's been a decided trend towards playing hard ball this year that I haven't seen out of the Bears in a while and I haven't quite figured out their motive for it yet.

Should have extended him before the season startet. He only wants more now and deserves it
-
nah bears wont extend him, Jerry Angelo is a classless bozo that should be thrown into a fire.

Failure to re-sign Matt Forte would be in reference to what Thomas Jefferson once said as a "fire bell in the night."

Either Angelo thought it would challenge him more to not have a new deal or he's the biggest fool in football. At the rate it's going Forte gonna make a real strong case for a DWill type deal. If he puts up 2000 total yards and averages 4.5 per carry and close to 10.0 per catch he'll prove he's the best all around back in the NFL.

And they'll franchise him....and I hope he sits out until a real contract is given to him.

The question the Bears are asking themselves, is how much longer is he going to last. He is already past the average time for a running back.
$6M a year was about right, but bump up the guaranteed money to $20M

no he's entering his prime, he's not past it. 28-30 is going/is past it.
