I don't support it at all; maybe that's why our views differ on it ;p.

Thats because nobody has fallen for any "shit" here.
He Posted his question
You guys told him to go fuck himself
I told you not to act like a jackass...
and we are right back where we started
Who fell for what exactly?
As far as the promoting on the site goes...thats beyond my paygrade, youll have to take that up with the Admins. Im not going to condemn nor condone it since im not the one who makes those decisions or runs this site. If it bothers you THAT much, then take it up with the people in charge. telling Jeff to go fuck himself isnt going to change it.

Soul, I couldn't be more disappointed in your actions. I've stayed out of the Pearlman debate to this point, but have had my opinion on the subject. The opinion that I'm glad to know my one true sports idol was only human. It gives me hope that I can accomplish as much as Walter did, with all of my flaws. Maybe one day my kids will look up to me as much as everyone looked up to Walter, with all of his flaws.I've always respected your views, but your actions right now really let me down. You're a good dude and surely know better than to act like this.

Soul, you're claiming this Pearlman dude comes on here just to incite people, yet he says he's looking for opinions from people who have actually read the book:

Also wanna say how much I appreciate this place. You guys have been extremely fair ...
Best,
Jeff
PS: To reiterate a point I've made: A definitive biography has to be definitive. It just has to be.
His last statement here defends the most criticized element of the book, the fact that a biography covers all parts of a man's life, not just the ones you cherish (which you're taking to an extreme, IMO).
But okay, so he comes in here and creates a thread right after a MNF loss, where our Bears looked terrible. Okay, that's inciting. I'll go along with that. Some people even refer to it as 'trolling.'
And what's the best counter-measure to trolling?

Like Ricz and a few others have pointed out, let it die. It's the internet.
But no, you're the Hulk Hogan of DBS, brother! And you went off...

And then, you point out his blatant quest for attention...

I can't believe you guys can't see through this asshat!!!!!!
Oh snap! You mean this asshat intentionally planned to stir up crap and incite posts during the maximum amount of negativity...

Jeff, I have every intention of reading your book, but not as soon as I'd like. I, at first, didn't want to read it, but am very interested in the details (not necessarily sordid ones) left out of his "autobiography"

I laugh at all you who think posting on a Bears message board will get him that extra publicity.
We are not small, but come on.

I just think it's funny that someone described me as an asshat. I haven't used that term ... ever. Good stuff.
I actually apologize about posting after the loss. Didn't occur to me, which it should have. My apologies. However, if someone would be willing to enlighten me, I'd happily take it.
Here's my question: Why are so many so angry? It's not like definitive biographies of the deceased have never been written before. Hell, let me count the subjects: JFK, RFK, MLK, Clemente, Mantle, DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, Ted Williams, Tupac, Shannon Hoon, John Lennon. On and on and on. And the best biographies—the honest biographies—paint a full portrait. Detailed, oft-complicated pictures of complicated human beings (And, believe me, Walter Payton was extremely complicated). The "He's not here to defend himself" argument just doesn't carry weight in my book, because it suggests that, once someone dies, we lose the right to examine his/her life with an unflinching eye. Which, beyond being silly, damns the accuracy of history. And, while Walter Payton isn't a former president or civil rights leader, he is—undeniably—a key figure in the history of American sport.
I get that Walter Payton was amazing, amazing, amazing to Chicago fans. And, if you read the book, you'll find a ton of that over 460 pages. A ton. I also get that Chicago fans are extremely protective of their icons. But are we simply not allowed to write honestly of people? Is that off the tables?
I could do without the "Fuck you and piss in your mouth" replies here. It's an interesting debate, if it's allowed.
Thanks. Love this site.
