As for why I posted here? Honestly, because it's a serious Bears hangout, and, well, I'm a New Yorker who probably didn't know better. :)

But I've come to really dig it here. Really.

Anyhow, I'm FINALLY coming to Chicago to promote the book. Two events:

Nov 28: Jeff Pearlman will discuss and sign “Sweetness,” 7 p.m. at
    Anderson’s Bookshop, 123 W. Jefferson Ave., Naperville.

Nov. 30. Jeff Pearlman will discuss his book, "Sweetness: The
Enigmatic Life of Walter Payton," at 7:30 p.m. at KAM Isaiah Israel
Congregation, 1100 E. Hyde Park Boulevard. The event is free and open
    to the public.

Look, I know there's skepticism and, perhaps, some lingering anger/mistrust/whatever. I swear to you—I don't care whether you buy the book or not. Really. Get it from the library, borrow from a friend, whatever. But come on out and hear me out. We can discuss it, maybe even grab some grub afterward ... dabears.com will handle the tab. :)

Seriously, would love to see anyone/everyone. Please spread the word.

    Thanks Jeff.

Great talking to you once again, and glad you are going to give people a shot at meeting you to discuss the book. Folks you are going to be missing out if you pass up this opportunity. Go out and see him, do it, even if it's only to argue your side of things. Those that have read the book will attest that SI is the one sensationalizing the negative aspects of WP's life. It's a great book.

Gzan, I can assure you, he is very much the real person who wrote the book. Lots of back and forth with him before and after the book, SI article and these threads.

I've actually read through his failed St Louis bid. Again he was an odd bird, players/coaches loved his play on the field, and 1x1 time w/him seems to have gone real well; many talked about how after an injury(even if from the other team) he would go and visit them in the hospital. Or if they were about to be cut he would comfort them, and he was always willing to offer his time for someone's cause. But many didn't like a lot of the sophmoric clowning around he did in the locker room, or his closed off nature. It just serves to remind you that everyone has flaws in their nature, and contridictions. The SB, many talked about how suprised they were that for all his talk about team first, yet he was upset b/c he didn't get a TD. But he knew he was a/the star on the team and felt that he deserved the oppertunity. I'm stunned at how poorly the St Louis group was organized. His partners were not well put together, and the one legit shot they had, a late partner was run off. It detroyed any chance he had to be an owner. The rest of the book you have a good idea about. I'm almost done, I think most of us have a strong idea of what's in the rest of the book so I won't bother with that. But I would suggest getting the book and giving it a once over. 400+ pages has been a fairly quick and easy read.
