    Bears Offseason [Detailed]

    Bears Offseason

    Hirings/Firings

    Fire Jerry Angelo
Fire Lovie Smith and coaching staff.
    Hire GM Eric DeCosta [Baltimore]
    Hire HC Rob Ryan [Dallas]
Hire OC Tom Clements [Green Bay]
    Hire DC Roy Anderson [Baltimore]

    Resignings/Cuts/Non-Resignings

    OT Frank Omiyale [Cut]
    S Brandon Merriweather [Not Resigned]
    DT Amobi Okoye [Not Resigned]
    WR Roy Williams [Not Resigned]
    RB Matt Forte [6 years 42 million/ 21 guaranteed]
    WR Earl Bennett [4 years 12 million/ 5 guaranteed]
DE Israel Idonije [3 years 8 million/3 guaranteed]
    OG Roberto Garza [2 years 5 million/ 3 guaranteed]

    Free Agents

WR Mario Manningham [NY Giants] 5 years 25 million/ 12 guaranteed

The Bears need a #1 type WR that runs crisp routes and can catch the ball in traffic. Manningham does not have elite size, but he does everything else well.

    S Michael Griffin [Tennessee] 6 years 36 million/17 guaranteed

The Bears FS position has been Angelo’s white whale and finally they sign a free agent that can come in and lock the position down.

OG Ben Grubbs [Baltimore] 5 years 35 million/ 18 guaranteed

Chris Williams has improved at LG, but he is still below average and needs to be replaced. Grubbs has been solid to dominant at LG for the Ravens, though the injuries will need to be explored.

    Draft

    1. LB Manti Te'o [Notre Dame] 6’2” 255lbs.

The defense is aging at an alarming rate and the Bears under Angelo have ignored adding youth and depth to the position. There will be a transition in the next couple of years from Urlacher and Briggs to a new group of LBs and Te’o fits the mold of a Bears middle LB. Te’o has good size, speed and has shown at Notre Dame that he can make a play on the ball carrier. He will start as a rookie at SLB and eventually move into the middle after learning from Urlacher for a couple of seasons. This is not a strong year for OTs in the draft so offensive needs will be addressed in free agency.

    2. OT Levy Adcock [Oklahoma St] 6'6" 325lbs

The Bears should move Carimi to LT and open up competition at the RT spot. Adcock is a big physical mauler that will back down from no one. Adcock has shown that he can hold up in the pass happy Oklahoma St attack and he should immediately push Webb for playing time at RT if not replacing him outright.

    3. WR Greg Childs [Arkansas] 6'3" 217lbs.

The Bears continue to make over their WR core with full size human beings. Manningham is a polished route runner and has great hands, but no one on the teams has Childs speed to size ratio. Childs will enter the rotation as a goal line WR and potential deep threat as he develops. There are some personal concerns with Childs, but a strong locker room should negate those concerns.

    3. CB Brandon Boykin [Georgia] 5'10" 190lbs.

The Bears have a collection of solid zone CBs that are all undersized with little make up speed. Boykins has the speed and size to be an NFL starter and he has faced some of the best WRs in the country while at Georgia.

    4. S Sean Richardson [Vanderbilt] 6'2" 220lbs.

The Bears safeties have shown nothing this year to give us any hope for the upcoming season and talent needs to be added to the competition. With Harris resigned for a couple of years as the veteran leader the Bears need to add playmakers around him to make up for his physical decline. The Vanderbilt pipeline continues to stay open as the Bears add Richardson who has exceptional size and tackling ability as the strong safety of the future.

    5. C William Vlachos [Alabama] 6'1" 300lbs.

Roberto Garza has done an admirable job of playing center this season and Chris Spencer looks to be the center of the future once Garza moves on. Vlachos provides quality depth and will be developed as a replacement for Spencer in a couple of seasons. Vlachos does not pass the eye test or have the eye popping measurable, but he has played and done well against a number of top DT talents.

    6. DE Kyle Wilber [Wake Forest] 6'5" 245lbs.

Julius Peppers and Israel Idonije are both over 30 and it appears that Idonije should move to a rotational position the Bears need to continue to add speed and youth to the defense. Wootton’s constant injuries and the lack of development by Mario Addison have left the Bears using Nick Reed as the rotational DE. Not to disrespect Nick Reed, but he has no business on an NFL field. Wilber is undersized, but has top end speed and could possibly play OLB if the Bears start to transition to a 3-4.

    7. LB Adrian Robinson [Temple] 6'1" 240lbs.

The lack of depth at the LB spot is still troublesome and the Bears need to continue to add players that can run and tackle. Robinson can back-up at all 3 LB spots and play special teams.

I like Rob Ryan, but he-to me-isn't the kind of guy the ultra conservative McC's would want. Cool list though

This is a perfect what should happen.

    What really happens.
No firings of F/O or coaching staff.
no one is cut from the OL(we need continuity from the group after all)
Draft is: DL, LB, S, WR, C, DL, OL, TE
no major FA signings of note.
    Forte "dis"franchised tag.

And another year is wasted, and the destruction of your Chicago Bears ( from within ) is completed.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?

    A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

Lotta parallel's between then and now. Same type of O problems, same type of 'mistakes' on D, same type of BS excuse making ( " we gotta figure out how to win football games" ), same level of frustration among fans ( actually higher now ). Hopefully same result in the end also. Bye, bye.

A schott of Schottenheimer will do wonders. Honestly, why couldn't Dick Ditka replace Ted Phillips? He may not be up to date on scouting, but he'd def. fire the right guys...
