Brian Urlacher admits Chicago Bears defenders are experiencing “trust" issues, but he denied that he and teammate Lance Briggs were arguing with each other on the sidelines during the 24-13 loss to the Lions on Monday night.
“Everyone asked me what happened after the game: ‘Was I yelling at Lance on the sideline?’ I said: ‘I wasn’t yelling at Lance on the sideline. He didn’t do anything wrong,’” Urlacher said Thursday at Halas Hall.
“My daughter was like, ‘Did you fight with Lance on the sideline?’ I said, ‘No, why?’ She said: ‘Well, you looked like you were really mad when you talked to him.’"
“We were both mad because we aren’t used to this. As long as (Briggs) and I have been here, we haven’t played like this," Urlacher said. "We’ve had some spurts when we’ve been bad, but not for five games in a row when you get hit on big plays like that. So it’s frustrating, but it’s fixable.
"We’re not…we still have the talent. We’re a talented defense. We have good coaches. We just have got to get out there and do it ourselves. That’s what it all comes down to. And we have the players to do it, and we’re smart enough to do it. We just have to do it.”
Regarding Bears defenders trusting one another, Urlacher said: “It’s a trust thing. You have to trust (teammates) are going to be in their gap and don’t get head-sy and don’t start getting on a block and looking out of your gap. Stay in your gap and trust that the (other) guy is going to be there. If we do that, we eliminate a lot of big plays.”
I think both of them need some practice in gap control. Most of those big gains are coming right through the areas patrolled by Briggs and Urlacher. They're getting faked out of their jockstraps and doing a lousy job of sealing cut back lanes.
Teams are forcing the Bears into nickel coverage and then running straight up the gut against it. With only two LB's on the field those gaps have got to be filled and it's not getting done.

Liar. You were yelling at Briggs, cameras caught it.
Yep.....I believe you're right Jimmors. It sure looked to me that he had some choice words for Briggs...and Briggs was looking a bit "humbled" by whatever it was that Urlacher was saying to him.
It didn't look like a conversation that was about...."DAUM! Can you believe how bad we're playing!????"
Nope.....it looked more like "Motha FKER!!!!! What the HELL was THAT!????? .... You let him blow right by for 88 yards! What the hell is WRONG with you!???? ..... We have to be able to TRUST that you're where you belong! I can cover for you every game Man!!!!!!!!!! ..... I'm sorry you didn't get a new contract somewhere. You just aren't WORTH it! .... Now Get your dam SHIT together!"
That's more like what it looked like to me ..... LOL!!!! :-)
To me as well. Why would they just be passing the time of day after Best just gored them for another long run that came through Briggs gap? Our run defense has been pitiful. Urlacher keeps saying it's fixable so where and when does that take place?

The 1985 Bears struggled on defense in their first five games. Granted, it wasn't to the tune of 400+ yards per game, but for over a third of the season, they played their shittiest defensive ball outside of the Monday night game down in Miami. I'm not trying to connect the dots and say that this team is anything like the '85 Bears, but I will say that it may be an issue of focusing on the important issues at hand. Hell, we were two big play give-a-ways away from riding home with a narrow 13-10 win over the Lions. The main thing I'm concerned about right now is tightening up the run coverage. If we do that and the defense goes back to performing like it did last season, we'll be fine and we'll all be talking about finishing with a record ranging anywhere from 9-7 to 11-5 and potentially earning a Wild Card berth.

Well, Hell, I wasn't used to seeing our Bears losing to the DETROIT LIONS, either......
It's kind of like this, Urls. Tennessee plays two sure win games in the SEC every year in Vanderbilt and Kentucky, plus two patsies at the beginning of the season, plus another patsy for Homecoming. We expect to win those five games. Now, the Bears play the Detroit Lions twice a year, and prior to Monday night's game against them, we had won the previous six meetings. Detroit is supposed to be two automatic wins for us, and it isn't happening this year. Go figure, but Jerry Angelo fucked us over big time.
