No it's not BHS, but it does have a playoff caliber D, and we worked it over today.

Ok. We have the Bucs, Eagles, Lions, Chargers and Raiders coming. Well see what it looks like then. Still have major doubts.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

People said the same thing about last year's team - that it wasn't playoff caliber. Yet, it managed to not only make the playoffs, but also win its division and make it all the way to the NFC Championship Game. This team isn't that much different, and if we can play as solidly as we did tonight the rest of the way, I think we can win some ballgames and make a run.

Don't get me wrong BHS, I've got my reservations, but don't discount this game out of hand. We held the best RB to under 40 yards, and against one of the best pass rushing D's, we held them to one sack. Teams will counter, and we have good D's that will study what we did; but this was a good start.

I'd have to agree. Despite the fact that they have one of the best pass rushers and one of the best RB's in the NFL they're still not a good team. You can't win games with only two players producing as we found out Monday night. If we'd have beaten the Lions in Detroit on Monday then along with this win maybe I'd believe we turned a corner but not just yet.
If the offense can keep playing this way and get more than just Forte involved consitently we still stand a chance at making the playoffs. As was pointed out. We just played the toughest part of out schedule and the Lions are just coming into theirs. SF took them today so we'll see where they are and where we are a the midpoint and then we can make a better judgement of what we've got and what we haven't.
The defense still has aways to go before they've got things turned around too. They shut down AP because they played 8 men in the box against him early on and dared McNabb to beat them passing and he didn't even come close. Once Ponder came in and was able to evade the rush they started moving the ball through the air. If it was the Packers and Rodgers we were playing we wouldn't have had 5 sacks and he would have passed those two young Safeties blind. We ain't there just yet and we could just as easily fall back from here as gain ground.

We played outstanding football against the Vikings. We held the best pass-rush in the league to one sack and that was really Jay's fault as he held the ball too long. We held the league's best back down. Our o-line played well thanks to some damn-good play calling and personnel moves. This added up to us beating down a bad team and not struggling to stay ahead.
Any team in the NFL can beat any other team. It's not just about the play on the field but the coaching. The Cleveland Browns can go into Lambeau Field and beat the Packers handily if the Packers were coached the way the Bears were in games 2-5. The Bears lost to the Lions because as usual, Lovie was slow to recognize who should and shouldn't be playing (it took an injury to finally get Paea some playing time) and for Martz to try max-protect. Good teams make those adjustments at half-time.
But I know none of this matters. You're simply another anonymous internet "fan" that believes being cynical about everything makes them look "discerning" and "hard to impress". Well you really just look like you don't know what you're talking about.
If the Bears play just like they played last night against ANY team, they'd beat them. No, not by 29 points but margin of victory is irrelevant. Any knowledgable football fan realizes the dramatic play-calling and personnel turn the Bears took last night. And yeah, genius, it's a big firkkin' deal.

Martz will get Martzy at times, you know it. I just hope the line blocks like this continually.

I know, which is why I titled this thread this way. I hope he realizes that it was BECAUSE Jay was max-protected that the offense played so well. The protection is the primary key. Lets hope Jay stays in his ear about that.

I wasn't cynical at the beginning of the season as some of my earlier posts show. I thought the Bears would be alot better and actually believed the O-line would be serviceable but they're still getting whupped by the better teams. And I thought the D would be able to carry this team ( as usual ) but they are ranked at the bottom. They haven't beaten 1 truly good team yet. Everyone from the media like Hub Arkush, Hampton, Adamle, Jiggetts, Miller all the newspaper columnists, and 99% of the fans have been pointing out to the Bears for 3yrs now that they must fix their O-line and they haven't done it . 3 friggin years. If they HAD one they could compete.
So no, I don't get delusional with garbage wins. I stay realistic, which is totally different from being cynical ( which is another form of delusional thinking ). I don't turn into one of the sheep who hop on the sunshine and rainbows bandwagon when there's one little thing to go " YAY " about. Put me on ignore. Peace out.

It's all a good point Starky but do you realize that if Martz capitulates this way he becomes superfluous. Once it goes that way we're no longer running his offense except in a very corrupted way. I don't think Martz will be back next season but it's far more important what he thinks. Will his motive be to help this offense improve at a cost of his rep and his vaunted system or does Martz do all that he can to remain Martz? Two of three more games should give us an answer.
