I remember when Cutler was drafted by Denver. Even then, the reporting had an air of contempt for the kid. Like, yeah he's got talent but... he could be locker room cancer! Like he was another Jeff George or something.
And then, after the trade, how many articles were there that stated something along the lines of 'the Bears finally got the quarterback they've always wanted, but... did they get more than they bargained for..." cue the scary music!
It was like we were being force-fed the notion that Cutler was Big Arm, Bad Attitude.
Who here didn't have that presumption by the time the trade happened?
We don't know what occurred in Denver. All we do know is that Cutler suddenly wanted out. How it was painted after that was done entirely by the sports writers of this country (and some not of), and a lot of them were guessing.
Eating crow will put a shit grimace on your mug even if you're on national television. Which is why Trent and the gang still won't acknowledge Cutler as being a viable quarterback, capable of putting a team on his back and dragging them across the goal line.
He is.
And we, as fans, should NOT warm up the rail for his ride out of town.
We finally do have the quarterback we've always wanted.
I can tell you what happened. When McDaniels came in as coach he assured Cutler that he was his guy at the very same time he was trying to engineer a trade for Matt Cassell. Cutler had his issues with the whole firing of Shanahan and losing Jeremy Bates as his OC and QB coach anyway and a natural suspicion of McD having come from the Belicheck coaching staff where honesty and fair play is not the operative way of doing things sometimes.
When the rumors started that McDaniels was trying to engineer the trade for Cassell, Cutler called him and confronted him with what he and everyone else had heard. McDaniels lied right to his face about it and when it was proved to be true any marginal amount of trust Cutler had for the man went straight down the tubes.
Intially the Denver press believed McD and said that Cutler wanted a trade simply because Shanahan had been fired because that was the party line coming out of Bronco HQ but it was never true. The fact that Cutler publicly asked to be traded was considered and insult to the fans and the Bronco organaization and the press began to crucify him in the papers. Nobody turns his back on the Broncos like that. Especially not the heir apparent to tghe throne of John Elway who once refused to play for the Colts and got himself traded to Denver.
"QB's WANT to come here. They do NOT WANT to be traded away"
So since Jay was even more closed to the press here than he is now it was easy to take pot shots at him and much like what was said about his toughness for sitting out the 2nd half of the playoff game he really didn't give a shit about what they wrote. He just wanted out of Denver and away from McDaniels. The press said good riddance and the fans bought it.
You may notice that nothing is mentioned any longer about the utter stupdity of that trade or Josh Mcdaniels. He's long gone and forgotten as best as can be for a guy who set the franchise back at least 5 years. Now the fans only talk about how the Broncos were stupid to trade Cutler and who did they ever get out of the trade anyway.
Jay was the presses whipping boy here because he was touted as the "QB Messiah" and the guy who would finally become the next John Elway and when it didn't turn out that way the press turned on him just as they've been doing ever since. That's pretty much the long and the short of it.

What a bunch of PRICKS ! You know they all network with each other, so the phone calls started flying and the Chi press followed the " let's demonize Jay" party line ..... with a vengeance. Who's the bad guys here ? The press is so fond of character assassinating those they don't like and those they think have big ego's. Big ego's ? Take a look in the mirror you frickin waterboys.
The transparent bug, that Dildo has up his ass regarding Cutler is truly pathetic. He isn't fooling anybody. He had a mediocre career and wouldn't have ever won a SB as the centerpiece of a team and he knows it . They won it because of a good running game and a great defense. His critique's of a player (who is better than him) are meaningless, as are the critique's of a press that clearly has a whipping boy agenda. The better person, throughout all of this, has been J Cutler.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

Well think about it this way guys. When a Bears player does something for charity or makes a personal appearance at a Children's Hospital in the offseason we post a thread and it gets some looks and a moderate response. But when the press came down on Jay for his lack of toughness the original thread had more then a hundred responses alone. And that doesn't count the dozen or more follow up threads that appeared over the next 6 months.
I have a real dislike for guys like Pompeii and Dildo but the pure fact of the matter is one shit article about a player sells more copy than all the human interests stories that will ever be written about in his whole career. Despite that I still hate that crap.

Soul I said it before I've been a fan of j since that draft. I wanted the bears to trade up for him but after SUPERBOWL u knew it was grossman or die. I just wish they build around him. Is that too much to ask for? I just feel like we got fooled that once we got j that's it our focus was to build a bad ass offense.

Btw I've been following cutler since that draft and everything soul said is true. Couple things to add.
One Floyd Reese at the time Titan gm wanted to draft cutler not young
The oc there wanted Leinart
The owner forced them to draft Vince young
