I don't give 2 shakes about how the consistant losing teams fans feel or would be appreciate; I don't hold the Bears to their standards. I was brought up on the "legacy of the Bears" all the wins all the championships; that's what I want...in my lifetime, not my dads or his dads.
I hold this team, fairly or not, to the standards of Pitt, and GB. They always find a way to have more up years then down years.....50% isn't good enough; if they have a down decade or 2 they make it up to their fanbases in a hurry; neither did much in the 80's, gb not much in the 70's, pitt, not much in the 90's, but mid 90's through last year GB 3 sb appearnaces and 2 titles; Pitt 4 appearances 2 titles, go back to the 60's and 70's GB 2 more titles, Pitt 4 titles. Bears 60's-70's bad, 1 sb title in the 80's, 90's- early 00's bad, 1 sb appearance.
Sorry I don't get to hold onto the good memory's that those teams have of the titles between the droughts. I'm not old enough for all but 1 of them; and I'm getty tired of wearing that 1 out. The Saints and the Bucs and Rams have as many SB's as the Bears; sorry that's not good enough, those aren't the teams that associate the Bears with; it's not what this team sold me, or that was ingrained into me. No it's not A SB; it's multiple. This team sells itself on it's tradition, and it's sold it's current fanbase a bill of goods over the last 50 years; 60's and 70's, fine every team, even the really good ones have down periods. But 1 sb/apearance doesn't make up for 20 previous years of irrelevance. Nor does the next 20 get wiped away b/c of 1 appearance and one almost.
I sufferred through the falling apart of the 80's and the laughable 90's, and I have appreciated that the 2000's have been better; but it's not satisfying. It's like having a drink of water and a piece of toast after fasting for a week. This team owes it's fanbase more then a decade of cielings and basements.
well, we have to build a foundation of good before we can be perennially great. In the last decade we've been good, and the foundation to be great has been set. It would be nice if we could climb the hill and get to the plateau of being great, I agree with you there. I just don't know if it will happen under the McCaskey's regime.

I guess that is the crux of the difference...I don’t feel like the Bears owe me anything; I don’t feel my long suffering entitles me to anything...sure, I want SB wins... but I don’t feel diminished or less without them; I am certainly not embarrassed by it...I don’t feel this organization is less or diminished without them either...we’re the God Damn Chicago Bears...we can go another 50 years without a SB win, and we’ll still be the God Damn Chicago Bears...I hold my head up high as a Bears Fan...proud and unashamed...Pitt and pack fans can shove those SB titles up their collective asses....they mean nothing to me...
No offense, but I think what you have said just points to why some of you can’t seem to enjoy a win as a win; that you will bitch and moan even in victory...winning on any given Sunday just isn’t good enough; you appear to need some kind of overreaching validation of your fandom; a validation that will only come with a SB win...multiple SB wins...that future maybe a long way away; you should try and enjoy the present when and where you can....like beating Tampa or chasing DET for a wildcard spot...

Negativity can drive people away but winning big games, making the playoffs and going deep into the playoffs will bring more people to the site. Seeing Jay Cutler getting his ass kicked, losing to the Packers, having the bears win ugly games vs shitty teams will not draw fans to the site. Some people are content with winning games no matter how the bears win them where others want the team to crush everybody they play. Do you ever notice how the 85 bears team gets mentioned all the time on here? If this team played like that team we would have a lot more fans on here and there would not be that much negativity on here.

winning big games but not winning the super bowl. winning big games, but not going undefeated...it'll never be what some want. If this team played like the 85 Bears, they'd win one super bowl and under achieve every year after. people are gonna bitch no matter what...some of us take the good with the bad and just enjoy, others focus on the bad and play fantasy football with their team. "we shoulda drafted _____!!" "why didn't we sign ____?!?!?" whatever...it is what it is. Thank God we aren't the colts

I don't understand it. I've been told, because I'm not from Chicago, that I never will understand Chicago sports fans.
Why, pray tell, do you get so personally wrapped up in a sports team that you simply can't enjoy yourself, or your fandom, without being "champions" or consistently in the hunt for a championship?
Sure, being a fan of "the champs" is awesome. But the losses and the hard times (take it from a fan of a team that was only 4-12 six years ago. Shit... 6-10 only THREE years ago!) only make the wins that much better.

An engineer knows more about constructing a building than I'll know in my lifetime. But if he builds a building and him and I are looking at it, and bricks are falling from it and it's tilted, I'll look at him and say "You suck as an engineer." And I'll be right.
Personally, I want The Chicago Bears to be mentioned in the same breath as The New England Patriots, The Pittsburgh Steelers, and yes, even those ... guys up north. I want to be able to talk with someone who supports another team that my team happens to be playing and have the ready confidence that my team will likely beat his team. Even if it happens to be one of those teams I just mentioned.
Why?
Because it's happened once (sorry 1980's reference) and I was sold on it happening again.
Yes, a Super Bowl appearance was gratifying. The loss one of the more difficult ones to swallow, but it was dampened by knowing The Bears were beaten by an equal, if not a superior team.
Yes, there have been Conference championships. Losing them is near-equal to the above.
Yes, there have been many play-off appearances. Good wins, bad losses.
All of this is gratifying. Truly. But this only makes the let downs all the more frustrating.
This isn't like dating a hot chick who won't put out. It's like taking that hot chick to the sack and having great sex just to have her hop off complaining of a cramp just as your about to get yours.
Okay, so too many negative posts get irritating. Not everyone sees the team in the same light. That's why we have optometrists and periodontists.
And a bunch of general practitioners.
No one else is like DB54. Yeah, we've got guys that will attack a positive post with a negative post, but... and I'm not privy to private messages... I don't think anyone is sending PMs to a person they just attacked, to reinforce their attack, and then sending messages to the board moderators complaining their being attacked. That, among many other things, is what set that guy apart from the rest of us.
And finally, you don't have to have been born in the city of the franchise to be a stout supporter of that team. I don't speak from experience, but it seems acceptable. However, it does seem logical that you do have to have been from a city to speak on the mentality of that city's citizens. In my opinion.
/end (not really a) rant
