So Far Bears Schedule Toughest in NFC, 2nd Toughest in NFL................

    Inside the Bears

Bears' schedule toughest in NFC -- so far

By Mark Potash on October 26, 2011 9:28 PM| No Comments| No TrackBacks

Through seven weeks, the Bears have played the toughest schedule in the NFC.

The record of the Bears' first seven opponents is 25-17 (.595) excluding their game against the Bears. The Cowboys and 49ers (19-13, .594) are next. For what it's worth, the unbeaten Packers have played teams with a combined record of 18-22 (.450), excluding games against Green Bay.

Five the Bears' seven opponents are over .500 -- the Packers (7-0), Lions (5-2), Saints (5-2), Falcons (4-3) and Buccaneers (4-3). The Bears also have played the Panthers (2-5) and Vikings (1-6).

Through seven weeks, the Buffalo Bills have played the toughest schedule in the NFL. They're six opponents are a combined 20-11 (.645) against the rest of the NFL. The Bears are second.

Here's a positive note to start the day with. Along with Dallas and SF so far we've played the toughest schedule in the NFC with the combined record of our opponents at 25-17,a .595 winning percentage. Dallas and SF trail by just .001 point lower at .594.

So far Buffalo has had the toughest schedule in the NFL. The combined records of their opponents is 20-11, a .645 winning percentage. The Packers have had it significantly easier. Their opponents have combined records of 18-22. a .450 winning percentage.

So for a few games things may get just a little easier and maybe we get through the next phase with a better record than we have up to this point. Following the bye week we get Philly followed by a revenge game against the Lions at home. Then for the next four weeks we tackle a mediocre AFC West team by team. I'm hoping to pick up tickets for the Bronco game here but with Cutler coming back to town they won't be easy to get. The boo birds will want to attend that one.

So if we can get through those 6 games with a 5-1 record we're right back in the thick of things at 9-4.

Ya we all knew the early part was brutal; but it's not really a condolence when you only beat 1 of the teams w/a winning record(TB). We really lost 2 games to each Det and GB also since they are div opponents which requires we beat them the next time to stand a shot for the NFC title.

Actually two. The Falcons are 4-3 too. I didn't expect us to beat GB but I sure didn't think we'd look as pathetic as we did against NO and Detroit. One of those games we should have won.

It just stumps me why we have to get to the bye week before the offense begins to settle in. Before the season ever started Martz comitted to picking up where we left off last year. He spouted off about running a balanced attack all through preseason and he did against Atlanta in the opener and we won handily. Then the wheels fell off as he went right back to his old ways.

Why do we have to start the season out with him struggling to get it throught his thick head that he can't run a "Pure Mike Martz" offense here?

The pattern I see with Martz is this: as long as we are ahead he has no problems running the ball. If we are behind by even one TD he goes into catchup mode. When we play high powered offenses (pass centered) then he goes back to instincts which is to pass the ball.

His inability to stick with the ground game and the equivalent of that with shorter drive sustaining passing is what get's us in trouble. Even if we could score on big plays we give the ball over to those high powered offenses that we can't outscore and we lose the TOP battle and the game.

He should be coaching for a team like the Broncos who have a shitty defense and virtually no running game. The only way they can win is in a shootout and the guy who could have QB'd shootouts now plays for us. If Mike Shanahan gets canned by Dan Snyder I just wonder if we could talk him into coming to Chicago as an OC. The only trouble is Lovie would see him as a threat and most likely shit can that idea before it ever got off the ground but the combination of Shanny running an offense coupled with Lovies defense would be a killer combination.

Yes, at least 4 out of 6 (8-5) would help get us in the hunt but we really need 5 (9-4) or all six (10-3) to wrap up a playoff berth. I can't see anyway that we'll overtake the Packers as long as Rodger is playing so we need to shoot for a wild card spot.

I think the division is out of reach with the way the GB plays.

I want a wildcard spot. A W against PHI would be great for the tie-breaker.
