Someone couldn't get comfy in Lovie's doghouse. This escalated quickly.
Bears release veteran safety Chris Harris
By Vaughn McClure, Tribune reporter 8:27 a.m. CDT, October 27, 2011
The Chicago Bears have parted ways with veteran strong safety Chris Harris.
Multiple sources told the Tribune that Harris was released Thursday morning. He started in the Bears' 24-18 victory over Tampa Bay in London with Major Wright nursing a hip injury.
It is unclear whether Harris asked to be released.
Harris was benched after a poor performance in a Monday night loss to the Lions and was inactive for he following game against the Vikings. He then asked permission to seek a trade, and the Bears granted the request. But Harris decided to finish the season with the Bears after talking with management.
More details to come.

It's true! I can't see Harris requesting his release as badly as he seemed to want to finish out his days here. I think it's more likely he pissed Lovie and JA off with his trade demand after his benching. I'm sure that didn't go over very well.
I guess we have to wait and see what the whole story is but if they did release him because of is anger at being inactive I think we made a huge mistake. He still a good ball player and his leadership is something that's gonna be hard to replace immediately. First Olin and now him and I'd be willing to bet they trade Briggs after the season ends if they can get a high pick for him.
Maybe they're clearing room for Terrel Owens...
Seriously though, Harris attitude has turned me off. I imagine part of what got him in trouble, besides poor play most of the season, is the fact that the guy can't shut up on Twitter when Lovie does a pretty good job of protecting his players and keeping internal matters private.
he fell off huge this season, he was great last year, played like ass so far this season
Here's all there is on Nelson. Pretty much just a reserve with Cincy. Not much production.

Is venting any worse than signing a guy for the big bucks like we did with Meriweather and have him totally disregard the way he's supposed to play in the system which got him benched. Are we better off keeping Meriweather than Harris?
Edit: To me this is like the deal with Taylor last years. I think Harris got upset the minute they signed Meriweather to that big contract for one year. Here's a guy who took a big hit on his Panther's contract to accomodate his trade here, makes 2nd team All-Pro, solidifies the defensive backfield and helps get us to the NFCC Game. This year he's playing for about 40% of what he handed to Meriweather and he get no attention on an extension? If anyone of us was treated like that by an employer we'd be a little pissed too.
