Bears reopened negotiations with Forte
A source inside of Halas Hall as confirmed that the Chicago Bears and Matt Forte have reopened negotiations on a new contract. It was the Bears that approached the Forte camp and wants to get something worked out before next Monday night’s game against the Eagles. Details of the offer aren’t available, but it is supposed to be a significant move towards Forte’s demands. The Bears have indicated that Forte may be franchise tagged if nothing can be resolved, but both sides want to avoid this measure. In other news, Twitter bigmouth and former Chicago Bears safety Chris Harris has been claimed by the Detroit Lions. Guess they enjoyed watching him suck in the teams’ first meeting. worth discussing and it's own thread?
what about the source?

I was hoping this would happen; he has earned it. And w/a full week deal with this it's a good time. I think both parties also have a better understanding where Forte belongs with the other top running backs. He doesn't have the TD's of the elite backs is what the FO will say, and he will counter that no other player accounts for more of team O then him. He really should get something along the lines of DWill. But I think they will get something less b/c they will tell him it's get something less or get 2 years of Franchise tagged. He'll threaten to sit out if FT'd and they'll counter that no one has ever actually missed a game and the new CBA will hit him harder then before. I see a 2-3 year extension about in the middle of Gore and DWill. I think this also helps the FO's public and player image if they get the deal done so this really is in both parties best interest.

We'll know soon enough if there's gonna be a meeting of the minds. There's been enough said in the local and national press that a new deal for him will constitute and event worth wringing some positive publicity out of. If I'm Jerry Angelo and I want to get the "Fire Angelo Squad" to back off some this should do it for some. For me it's too little too late. If it get done I'll be happy for Matt Forte and the Bears but still digusted with Angelo for ever letting it get to this point.
He dared the guy to prove his worth and Forte picked up that gauntlet and ran with it for all of 1091 yards from scrimmage so now pay the man what he's worth. He is an elite player.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I hope they can front load the crap out of this deal and have Forte sit minimally on the books in the future. Also it will make it easy to cut ties if he fizzles out in 2-3 years, and he likely will with as much of a workload he bares (knocking on wood, hoping he lasts longer).

They have enough cap space to do it if that's the way they decide to go.

Ya make a good point about the workload and only time will tell. But, barring injury, he should last another 5 at least. This guy is a worker, and by that I mean , someone who wants to be great not someone who will rest on his laurels or will coast once he's shown the money. He strikes me as the kind who has a genuine desire to be a true professional and make a lasting mark on the league. The Quiet Stud. Guess they finally figured it out. Better late than never.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

And I doubt he bitches about that as much as a certain linebacker would...

LOL yeah, up yours Lance, you'll just have to wait.
This is great news. During the Bucs game last week if you were paying attention you might have noticed all of the Bears fans chanting "pay the man!" everytime he broke into their secondary. I think we all did permanent damage to our vocal chords after his long td run. :)
By the way, as promised to several of you, I've posted up photos of the weekend, including the press conference, practice... etc plus some sideline shots. They aren't in their own thread but you can find them tagged onto the end of Flea's Bears vs Bucs thread, before it disappears into history and just becomes a happy memory...
unfortunately I was too busy dancing and jumping around to get a shot of Forte's td run
Bears v Bucs
