Bears Mock Draft [Post Bye Week]
Draft
1[22] OG David DeCastro [Stanford] 65 315lbs.
The Bears have a couple of needs that are 1st round worthy, but that value of this draft is on the OL and the Bears can continue to improve a developing group. The OL has started to develop and in so doing Webb has shown flashes, Chris Spencer has looked like the Center of the future and Lance Louis has proven that he should be starting. Chris Williams has been solid at LG, but I feel we can upgrade from him. DeCastro is a Logan Mankins clone that is solid in pass protection, nasty in the run game and has the strength and attitude to dominate the opposition.

2[54] WR Nick Toon [Wisconsin] 63 220lbs.
The Bears search for a big, physical and talented possession WR had taken years and led to some serious disappointments. Toon combines not only the physical size that the Bears need, but also has the hands and leaping ability to finally provide a red zone threat. Combine that with the fact that he plays in a run heavy system and still produces is a positive.

3[71] CB Donnie Fletcher [Boston College] 62 200lbs.
Charles Tillman shows his age more and more and Tim Jennings, who is playing really well, does not have the size to matchup with the Calvin Johnsons of the NFC North. Fletcher combines the Cover 2 size that the Bears need as well as the physical nature to come up and make tackles.

3[86] S Tony Dye [UCLA] 6 215lbs.
I know what all Bears fans are saying, another 3rd round safety, but the Bears have failed to draft/sign and develop 2 starting safeties. Chris Conte looks like a keeper and is showing more and more ability as he gets experience. Conte also has the speed to play the FS spot, something that the Bears lost when Manning signed in Houston. Dye brings size and physicality to the SS spot and can battle with the often injured Major Wright.

4. LB Sean Spence [Miami] 6 230lbs.
The Bears need to start thinking about the eventual transition from Briggs and Urlacher to a new regime. Spence lacks size, but has speed to burn and looks like a perfect Cover 2 LB. Spence has a nose for the ball and could be a nice option as a long term replacement for Lance Briggs and potential competition in 2012 for Nick Roach.

5. TE Rhett Ellison [USC] 65 250lbs.
Kellen Davis has flashed potential, but disappointed more than he should have and Matt Spaeth looks like a short yardage blocker. The Bears need to add someone to the mix that can develop into a complete TE. Ellison is light on elite production, but has a nice size to speed ratio and there has been a recent history of production from USC TEs in the NFL.

6. C Quentin Saulsburry [Mississippi State] 62 305lbs.
Roberto Garza may be back and Chris Spencer looks like the center of the near future, but youth and depth is still needed at the position. Salsburry has experience at both OG and C and is a physical run blocker that could be develop at a couple of spots.

7. LB D.J Holt [California] 6 242lbs.
The Bears continue the youth movement at LB adding a thumping MLB with enough speed to project to the Cover 2 defense. Holt can tackle, which is key for a division with Adrian Peterson and he will contribute on special teams right away.

It's way to early to get serious about this yet. We don't even know who all the prospects might be but I will say this much. Al Toon would be a nice 2nd round pick if he lasts that long. Obviously I'm gonna be biased towards U of W players but I think Toon is the kind of over the middle guy we need. I watched his Dad play there in the 80's and saw him pull off one of the strangest pass plays ever. I'll tell you about it sometime.
I don't know a damn thing about the OG but unless he can also play OT it's hard to see him going that high.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I like the work you put in your mocks windy but I don't think the logic in this one is there. For one name me one draft ja didn't draft a dline men. Two do you really think our first rounder will be oline three first rounds in a row?
Like the players though and direction. I highly disagree with the Webb showing promise and if we do go for another olinemen in the first I hope it's to replace him
IMO our first will be wr, de, or s

Dear Windy,
There is not enough special teams talent in your mock draft. We have a fire-breathing dragon at Halas Hall, who needs to be fed before she's unleashed upon the league every 4th down. Feed her. Nurture her. Give her all you've got.
Sincerely,
Jerry Angelo

I'd love to see DeCastro but if JA and co are there they will think the line is "fixed" or "addressed". In all probability, it will be DE's, WR's and DT's.
I say use that extra 3rd round pick (and or bundle) and take a shot at Blackmon from Okie St.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

I love Blackmon but that would take a Julio jones type trade to get him

Point two is understandable when it comes to this regime. But that's exactly what they should do and precisely why they won't.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

I would agree that the 2012 1st rounder will most likely be a defender. Either a stud pass rushing DE or the best LB available. Don't forget Briggs' little tantrum and what happened with Chris Harris creating a stir over his deal. If they can get value for Briggs I think they'll get rid of him rather than to have to keep dealing with his bitching over his pay.
Like I said in my first post the one guy who would make a good pick would be Toon but he's not 1st round material. Probably more like high to mid 2nd based on where he's at today. That all could change in another 6 months though.
