"The last showing we had on Monday night wasn't very good. So this Monday night hopefully we can turn that around," "In those [road losses], we still should have won. As long as we're penalty free or minimize the mistakes, we should have a great shot at winning this game."
One quote is from Roy on the upcoming Monday night game, the other from a “true” Chicago Bear...which one’s which?
Still like to see the exact quote 3nags is referring to...
Here's the Roy quote from: Williams: Eagles game not 'must-win' for Bears - Chicago Tribune
Williams: Eagles game not 'must-win' for Bears
November 03, 2011|By Fred Mitchell, Tribune reporter
Roy Williams knows that the Bears' game Monday night against theEagles has huge playoff implications. But the veteran wide receiver declined to label it a must-win game.
“I don’t know if it’s ‘must-win.’ We want to win, but don’t think it’s a must-win,” Williams said Thursday at Halas Hall. “If we win, that boosts us up a little bit and it gives us a little moreconfidence. But if we lose it’s not the end of the world. We’re not out of the playoffs.”
The Bears were off last weekend after beating Tampa Bay 24-18 in London on Oct. 23.
“We will be ready to go," Williams said. "No matter if we play on Monday night, Thursday night, Sunday night, Sunday afternoon .. I mean, we’ve got to play the game. People were talking about London and we were getting there on Thursday and we were going to have jet lag. When the ball got kicked off, the Chicago Bears were ready to play."

Wolf, I'd guess the first quote is from RWill is it immediately starts out with an excuse. "Theres gonna be some glitches, problems, just like any other game" is not the same as "We just need to go out there and play error free football".
The latter reinforces the positive but the former reinforces the negative. He's already preparing an excuse. That's my guess.

You would be wrong...the first is a quote from Jay....
As far as his "not must-win" comment goes, I don't think what he's saying is all that horrible or unusual; those same words have come out of lots of players mouths over the years before big games; far better then over-hyping the importance or guaranteeing a win...I certainly don't see anything to get anyone's undies in a twist over...

The next two games are telling for the rest of the season. If we lose against Eagles Detroit becomes a must win. If we beat the Eagles but lose to the Lions we can still sneak in as wild card team since we beat Falcons and bucs(and hypothetically in this scenario Eagles). If we lose to both then we pretty much have to clean sweep the rest of the season
and yes Roy is a douche

Ordinarily you wouldn't but RWill is a guy most of us have come to know and hate. There's probably little he oould say right now that someone wouldn't take issue with. That's the reason why I thought that first quote was his. He's almost always on the defensive and to me that comment is simply setting up an excuse for losing just as saying that it's not a crucial or a must win game is an excuse for losing.
I hear a lot of willing to settle for second best coming from this team and it's coaches and I think that what's bothering me the most. This bunch really isn't willing to pay the price for a Super Bowl win. JMO.

That's been going on for years. Ever since I read what I think was on Ski's signature where, to paraphrase Ted Phillips, the Bears can't win big every year, to me, that's just a sign that this franchise has accepted mediocrity. The last time the Bears really thought they could win the Super Bowl every year was from 1984-1991. We always had the top defense in the NFL, and an offense that was efficient enough to support the defense. This franchise, under Jerry Angelo's leadership, hasn't built the team up for the future. Rather, what I see is a football team that year in and year out bandages itself and hopes to go out and produce a playoff contender. You can't do that and consistently expect to compete for the Super Bowl.

And that's what I keep coming back to as well. That kind of thinking at the top dooms this organization from becoming dominant again from the very start. Shit trickles downhill and that's exactly what we've got. The only guy in that organizational chart I posted whose worth a damn is Cliff Stein. Other than that they're all pretty useless in my opinion.
Nobody can provide any significant evidence that Jerry Angelo is a wizard of a GM and unless Lovie and his coaching staff can wring some back to back playoff seasons together out of his guys rather playoff and fall back seasons then he's no more than a mediocre coach getting middle of the road results.
If the Bears organization is content with the idea that they don't need to challenge for a Super Bowl birth every year then I have to wonder why they deserve the loyalty their fan base shows them. Maybe Ted Phillips was misquoted or maybe the statement was misunderstood but there is no mistaking the results. Until the Bears do challenge for an NFC crown and a shot at the Super Bowl annually they'll always be that same old middle of the road team and never again deserve the moniker "Monsters of the Midway". To me it's a damn shame this team is being run that way.

That being said, if we make the playoffs this year despite the sabotaging of our team this off season by Angelo, Lovie Smith deserves consideration for NFL Coach of the Year for pulling a white rabbit out of his ass as opposed to a hat. However, I think that honor will go to Chan Gailey since the Bills are tied for first in their division.
