A good GM needs to find value in the players market place and Angelo is very hit and miss in that regard. For every Okoye he picks up for peanuts there's two that he woefully over pays like Taylor and Manu and I still think those two mistakes is why Phillips has a tighter hold on the purse this year.
Any good football man who comes in is gonna want complete control of football operations and the purse strings need to be open if he's gonna build consistent winners. The team can't afford to keep overlooking great offensive talent just because of the price tag. Look at the benefit the defense has gotten from signing Peppers. When we have spent money on offense like we did with Cutler Angelo reneged on any promise he may have made to put better talent around him. He expects far too much from Cutler alone because he doesn't understand offenses or how to build one, that's obvious.
There's no doubt in my mind that we need new blood in the front office and not someone from within the organization. We need a very good personnel guy to match up with Cliff Stein and Ted Phillips who are both "bean counters" and less likely to spend where it's needed withour proven results. Jerry Angelo's proven results are at best very mediocre.
I agree with everything you say; you are essentially preaching to the choir on this one. I don't know where the Bears ever found Jerry Angelo or what they saw in him, but they need to get rid of him. True, he has won four division titles in his time as GM (of course, the 2001 title came under Mikey's draft picks), but we aren't winning with enough consistency. I would at least like to win like the Pittsburgh Steelers did. We very badly need to get rid of our front office staff in favor of a more proactive GM who will be more offensive-minded than Angelo has been. What we need is someone who will pay attention to both offense and defense.

They hired an executive search firm to provide them with canidates but you have to ask yourself what was the criteria and parameters they were given in terms of that search? If you eliminate those guys who would want unquestioned authority over all team operations then you eliminate the guys like a Bill Parcell's or a Mike Holmgren and others who wouldn't take the job under any other circumstances.
So the Bears have won 4 NFCN titles on Jerry's watch. BFD! He's been here for ten years and I don't consider a .400 winning percentage all that good especially since in the off years we weren't even in the hunt. Overall the Bears have been little more than a .500 team under Jerry Angelo and to me that's not good enough.

You're talking to a New York Yankees fan here, soul, so I know exactly what you mean. I expect all my favorite teams to at least compete for championships every year, and aside of three years over the past seven seasons, we simply haven't done that.

While were at it, let's grab Marquis Pouncey for a 3rd and Patrick Willis in a trade for Briggs

I think the Bears should pay Favre to come out of retirement and then install Webb and OMG as his tackles.

That would the shortest season of his career.

All of these posts change meaning after a VICTORY at Philly ... which none of us ever expected.

Hey now, I predicted that we would win by six. If I remember correctly, I said that we would win by a score of 27-21. Well, the score was 30-24, so I wasn't far off.

Just had to repost this. This was from the beginning of November ... alotta good points made by everybody.
A new broom sweeps clean since then. Which we never forsaw at the time.
So ... a new thread is needed ... Would you trade a second rounder for Brandon Marshall?
Answer there.
