I think eliminating the 7-step drop is the single greatest factor in improve the O-line's pass protection. Not having to hold off a defender for that extra 1.5 seconds cannot be overvalued.

I think also keeping that extra blocker in to help Webb and Louis showing he is probably a better OT then a RG is the biggest difference. Louis has that mean streak he just wanted to kill somebody
again, we've just started to go to an empty backfield and been able to complete passes without sacks and whatnot. why is that? Several key 3rd down conversions by Bennett and good blocking. The key to fixing the offense is to make drastic improvements to the WR corps (unless Roy turns into that WR Martz thought he was) and slight improvements to the o-line(that is, drafting a guard or a tackle early), and between Jay and Forte, this offense could EXPLODE

If we physically manhandle the Lions like we've done to the past three opponents, then I will say that we are on pace to look possibly like even an elite OL. They will have to keep sacks to a minimum of 0-2 per game consistently the rest of the way, and the run blocking must continue to be the dominant focus in our offense.

I wouldn't call them elite as pass blockers but they are getting the hang of it. At least everyone seems to know WHO he's supposed to be blocking now. Using the TE's and Clutts in the backfield is helping a lot but Martz still goes to those 5 receiver sets and I think he should trash those. We don't need 5 guys in the pattern if we use the RB, FB, and TE's like we should.
It never ceases to amaze me how when he does finally get around to using one of the TE's we complete a long pass or score a TD but no matter how well it works he does it once and then ignores it the rest of the game. Like I've been saying, someone needs to rip up half his playbook.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Or maybe Soul, Martz is only calling half the plays and Tice the other. If you would have told me there is a Martz team using the TE AND a FB I would have thought you crazy.
Dags I think the line is a ways away from elite. If we manhandle Det. then were definitely above average. Just having Omiyale on the team disqualifies us from saying the line is elite lol.
I hope someone asks Tice the question of weather or not he thinks Louis is still more suited for OG or T. If he says guard do you guys believe in that judgement considering he has improved the line.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
Restore the roar!

Clutts and Spaeth are both blocking machines. The line is opening some nice holes but there are some real key blocks being thrown by Clutts and the TE's. I'd still like to see what Clutts can do with the ball especially down on the goaline. Everybody is gonna key on the RB and if Cutler gave it to Clutts off a reverse pivot where they fake to the RB and just let him plow through I think the guy would be a great short yardage FB. He's built like a tank.

Again, when we've been going to the no backfields, especially this last game, they were the right calls. Martz was able to exploit weak safeties and an overall injured secondary doing so. 3rd and 17 turned into 1st and 10. Not saying it should happen with regularity, but the way he used it last night was the right way.

Give the guys on the field the credit they deserve, they have played better. BUT it is also play calling and keeping TE's in, at least for the initial rush, even on empty backfields, and little to no 7 step drops. It's a fine mix of both. Also give Forte some credit, it's hard to bull rush/blitz the qb when you have to keep one eye on the rb that is going to burn you.

I never really said that the offensive line was elite, but I think that with a win in Detroit this coming Sunday, it can take a big step in going into that direction. Truth be told, I think that this line by next year can be great if we continue to build depth and dump OMG, as shorty stated above.
I don't propose at the moment that we go out and draft an OLman in the first round again like we did this season (I think we should trade up for Michael Floyd or draft Al Toon as soulman said - soulman, you are good for something after all! LOL), but I do think that in either the 2nd or 3rd Round, depending on what we do in the first round, we should draft another OLmen, like a C, who can be the understudy to Garza for a year or two.
