The Bears on Wednesday replaced one rookie tight end with another on their 53-man roster, putting Kyle Adams on injured reserve with a hamstring injury and elevating Andre Smith from the practice squad.
An undrafted free agent from Purdue, Adams appeared in each of the first eight games this season primarily on special teams. He injured his hamstring in Monday night’s win over the Eagles.
Smith, an undrafted rookie from Virginia Tech, spent the first nine weeks of the season on the Bears’ practice squad. He appeared in 54 games with the Hokies, catching 39 passes for 438 yards and seven touchdowns while also blocking two punts on special teams.
The Bears replaced Smith on their practice squad with tight end Draylon Ross. An undrafted rookie from North Texas, Ross spent part of training camp with the Bears. The addition of Ross came one day after the Bears had made other practice squad moves, signing guard Reggie Stephens and terminating the contract of safety Winston Venable.
Stephens was selected by the Bengals in the seventh round of the 2010 draft out of Iowa State. He spent his entire rookie season on Cincinnati’s 53-man roster, but was inactive for all 16 games.

Not that I'm putting down Adams but he's been strictly a ST guy ever since Clutts won the FB spot. I like this move because Smith was an absolute blocking machine during the preseason and I'd like to see how well he does now.

Another good blocker sounds good to me. I believe Sox was high on this guys blocking as well. Hope he does well.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Yep, he was a killer in the preseason. I thought we might lose him if we put him on the PS so we've been lucky so far. I think the only reason they kept Adams active instead was his ST play and as a backup FB but once we got Clutts we didn't need him in the backfield anymore.

Good, I thought Andre was the better player in the preseason and I still feel that way. The guy is a truly gifted blocker which that has an absolute ton to do with heart, effort and selflessness - and those are the things every team can use more of.
