Lovie Smith and the staff
Two yeas in a row now, this staff has taken this team that nobody thinks will ever win and put together some pretty good football. This year, just like last, the team was confused and out coached at times, out matched others. However, the staff again has been able to find the strengths and work to maximize those, and minimize weaknesses. Good job to the staff, good job Bears

Let's hope this year that the other teams don't figure us out and exploit us late season, like they did last year.

You're right Nick given the talent they have to work with they've done alright. The guy I have to give the most credit to is Mike Tice. He's taken two 7th rounders, two former 1st rounder playing out of the position they were drafted for, moved a 32 year old OG to OC and made a serviceable line out of them. Who's a thunk it when the season began?
Martz is beginning to realize that we're far better off running a far better version of a Ron Turner type offense than a really poor version of his own. If he'll finally accept the fact that he just doesn't have the "horses" to run his deal 100% we shouldn't have all that much problem becoming at top 15 offense or maybe better if we can consistently put up 250-300 yards passing every game.
The only real disappointment to me is that we're not getting the sacks we should be. There's no doubt that Rod Marinelli is one of the NFL gurus for that so I don't quite know where we're missing the boat. We get pressure but we don't close the deal often enough. I think we need a healthy and productive Corey Wootton to relieve Izzy and Pep to keep them fresher throughout the game and I also think we need to use the Okoye/Paea combo more than we do if we expect to get more sacks out of the front four. It'll have to come from there because we don't blitz well enough to do it often.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Bring back the 46 defense! We'll blitz those bastards back into the Stone Age! lol
You know, we have never really had a team that did well blitzing the ball during the Lovie Smith era. Probably the last decent blitzing team we had was when Mark Anderson had 12 sacks in the 2006 season. Since then, we've not gotten any pressure on anyone. I've always chalked it up to us not really being capable of doing such a thing because of the style of defense we run.
