Too many field goals
Offense doesn't look too good today. Couldnt score touchdowns and haven't really sustained drives. It's obvious how valuable Bennett is to the passing game. Once Detroit shut him down, the offense stalled. Forte also had below average day. Defense and ST carried us today

Wait...there was an offense in Soldier Field today?

There's always too many FG's. That because we're about the worst 1st and goal team in the league. Martz's offense sucks when the field gets that short. If he'd start using the two 6'7" TE's he has more often we wouldn't have to settle for so many FG's. Every time he does it and it works he leaves it alone for awhile. It's like he's too afraid that it'll be successful and he'll have to start throwing to his TE's.
That was not a well planned or executed offense today at all. The pass blocking sucked. Anyone catch what happened to CWill. EWill took his place the whole 2nd half but I didn't see him get hurt or hear them announce anything.

said the same thing as we went into 1/2 time. I was worried b/c that is a 2nd half team(we shut down but that hasn't been the mo for det) and they have an O capable of outscoring teams if they continually settle for FG's. Luckily the ST's and D scored all we needed.

Our first TD was good but when you special teams and defense score 3 tds we don't need to run up the score with our offense. Hell we should have punted the ball on first down so our defense have some more fun at Staffords expense.

It wasn't about running up the score it was about moving the football and getting it into the end zone when the opportunity presents itself. You don't try not to score when you're in the red zone. I stand by what I've said. Martz's play selection sucks when we get anywhere near the goaline.
We came away from that game with only 216 yards total offense and settled for FG's when drives stalled twice. Yesterday it didn't make a difference but there are plenty of games where it will. Even the Billick and Brennaman commented on that. Martz never seems to have to goods perpared to administer the killer blow down there. We may have gotten away with it yesterday but there'll be a game where the extra 4 or 8 points a TD or two would have made will end up losing us a game.

Detroit had a slight edge in time of possession, but if I had to guess, most of those minutes that the offense had the ball came in the second half. The offense looked half way decent in the first half with the exception of Forte. I didn't get to see the first half of the game because, like a dumbass, I slept in from 9am straight through to 6:00 in the evening. Detroit seemed like they held the football for damn near 2/3 of the second half since we kept getting so many takeaways for touchdowns and thus they would get the ball back and go on a drive of maybe 20-35/40 yards. I was happy overall with the defense, but they still gave up way too many yards to Detroit. Part of that had to have been because Stafford threw the football 63 times during the course of the game.
