    Bears Workout OG Mansfield Wrotto

Bears giving tryout to free-agent OL Wrotto - chicagotribune.com

He is an actual option off the street that I am okay with.

    -He is young [27]

    -He is huge 6'3" 330lbs

-He has started games in the NFL

"Wrotto, a six-year veteran, has made 12 starts in 27 career games. He made seven starts in 11 games last season for the Buffalo Bills." from the article.

It's nice to see them actually addressing a problem on the line.

The team needs SOMEONE IN A HURRY with CW gone for the year so I am all for something like the above.

Big surprise--we are gonna have to draft a quality OG for backup/developmental purposes in say rounds 2-3 this offseason.

They should have been doing this as much as they've been running DE's in and out of here. The excuse of "well there's more of a glut on DL than OL" doesn't hold water as that dynamic changes from year to year and that was the excuse foisted last year. Should have had a replacement for Omiyale, determined if Horn is viable and auditioned a few others. Add in zero in FA and compare that to the FA-DE auditions in the preseason and it's moronic not to add OL depth when there was time and talent.

This line CANNOT have another injury and continue to improve or stay level.

Great, the Pats sign guys like Brian Waters and we look to Mansfield Wrotto. Why does this not surprise me?

Bears give tryouts to three offensive linemen

By Brad Biggs, Tribune reporter 4:19 p.m. CST, November 15, 2011

Mansfield Wrotto wasn’t the only offensive lineman to get a look from the Chicago Bears on Tuesday as the team considers options to replace left guard Chris Williams on the roster.

Three players were put through a tryout at Halas Hall. The Tribune reported Tuesday morning that Wrotto had a tryout, and an NFL souce said offensive tackle Renardo Foster and guard Mike Gibson also were put through workouts.
Foster has played with the St. Louis Rams and Atlanta Falcons. He appeared in 10 games with the Rams last season and has three career starts. Gibson has played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks, where Wrotto also played. Bears personnel director Tim Ruskell came from Seattle.

Williams was placed on injured reserve Tuesday after emergency surgery on his left wrist Sunday night. The Bears have two open roster spots as safety Anthony Walters was placed on injured reserve. Walters was promoted from the practice squad last month. He suffered a pulled hamstring in Sunday's win over the Detroit Lions.

The Bears have yet to announce a roster move. It is believed they will re-sign Winston Venable to take Walters' roster spot. Venable was cut last month to make room for Walters. He was placed on the practice squad and then cut loose last week when guard/center Reggie Stephens was signed to the practice squad. Now, Venable could be back in the mix on the 53-man roster.

If they spent as much attention on the OL as they did the DL, this wouldnt be a problem.

Hopefully Carimi will be back soon.
