Agreed...when he can use his speed to get separation, he's a threat (unfortunately even that doesn't seem to happen enough for a guy of his obvious abilities while evading in the return game). But he rarely makes "jump ball" type catches in traffic like a true #1 would be expected to do regularly nor is he that productive over the middle a la Bennett.

With the OL improving, the most obvious deficiency on the team is the lack of a bonafide #1 type marqui WR.

Nothing about the passes he's dropped or the lack of production since he's been a Bear. What surprised me was that usually Zach doesn't really ask any tough questions of the players he has on the show. But last night he asked Roy more than once why he hasn't been more productive and whether or not he understands the fans and media being less than positive about him so far. Roy just said that he's playing a different position than he has his entire career, on the other side of the ball, and he's still learning it. What?! Zach also asked if he thought that Cutler was the best QB he's ever played with and at first he said 'Yes' but then said that Jon Kitna is the most competitive person at the positiion that he's ever played with but quickly said "Jay is really competitive too though.".
It's interesting how RW makes all kinds of excuses despite being a guy who was brought here as a "proven veteran with knowledge of Mike Martz's passing offense". RW also had 5 weeks or so with Bennett out on injury and didn't do much with the opportunity so complaining about the competition form EB for opportunities sounds pretty lame to me. Where's all that preseason bravado about "70-80 catches" and "just get me the ball!" NOW???

Fact is, RW was given a shot at resurrecting a career that looked promising with the Lions and then had 3 disappointing seasons with Dallas and he really hasn't done much with it. At least he came cheap and is just on a 1-year deal cuz I don't see any reason at this point for him to remain with this team come 2012.

Agreed! It would be different if we were hearing things about what a great blocker he is or how great he is in the locker-room with the younger receivers, but that's not the case.

I commented on that last night while watching the Broncos vs Jets (now called the Jests) game. Sanchez who looks like he'll never make it as a top NFL QB has guys like Plax and Holmes to throw to. They get open and he can't even get the ball to them with consistency. Cutler gets RWill and Knox for #1 WR. That's a dirty shame.

We had our chances to sign Plax in the offseason. He was interested and although he's had some off field issues he's always been a very productive WR. He's had 7 TD catches so far this year playing with Sanchez. Has Roy Williams even made 7 catches period????? I doubt given his situation that Plax would have been anymore expensive to sign than RWill and once again Angelo makes the wrong choice.

I've backed this stable of WR we have in the past but I've reached the end of my rope too. With a QB as good as Jay Cutler he needs one top notch go and get it, hands like glue, speed to get deep, moves to get open number one guy besides Earl Bennett to throw to. It's time the Bears stopped pussy footing around this issue and get him that guy either in FA or through a high draft pick. Somebody with RWill's size but with bigger talent than RWill's mouth. I can't wait for that lousy excuse for a football player to be gone.

Play Hurd and Knox in his place and we'll be world's better off. The guy just doesn't get it and never will.

RWill is a waste of roster space and a paycheck. As far as I'm concerned he's just one more personnel mistake that Martz has to live down. All we've ever heard from the guy is excuses about his play from the day he got here. He's a manchild who takes no responsibility for his play and we don't need him. Not even now. Bench his lazy as or make him an inactive I care less which but we have guys right now who could outplay him if given half a chance.

    1) Watching the Broncos-Jets game last night I was struck by the same thing. Coming into this year I thought of Sanchez as a "young-gun, up-and-coming" QB who was really going to blossom and light it up this year. He totally sucked last night and the guy has marqui talent to throw to. He never took the top off the Denver pass D (which consists only of Champ Bailey) once, missed open receivers several times, and threw an inexcusible pick-6 to put Denver right back in the game. If I were a Jets fan, I'd be really pissed to have played such good D and lose because my offense can't score more than one TD against a very mediocre team.

2a) As a Bears fan, it's really frustrating to watch the opposite situation--a great QB being constantly let down by his lack of supporting cast. First, it was horrific OL blocking & play-calling and now that that has improved it is the obvious need for a true bonafide #1 type WR. Roy Williams has shown himself to be a clown (even to people like me who really wanted to believe he would step up this year) and frankly Johnny Knox isn't far behind. Remember, JK whined about being demoted from starting in preseason and all he's done since when playing is make 1-2 catches per game, with a bunch of drops, continued shit route-running, no big plays, and no TDs. I'll ask again...what could we get for him draft-pick-wise??? I see no reason to keep him either except for maybe returns (which btw he has sucked at this year too in his few chances).

2b) Hate to say it, but JA needs to attack this problem with BOTH free agency and the draft. You've said it yourself before, Soul--rookie WRs need at least 2 years to develop impact anyway unless you're getting a top-10 guy like Green or JJ or maybe Blackmon (which we WON'T), so JA needs to snag a FA guy for 2012-2013 AND draft one for the future too. Duane Bowe might be a good candidate for the former and Michael Floyd a good option for the latter. I'm tired of waiting for 3rd rate talents like Roy and Johnny to "come into their own".

Yep! Right on MP. I think Bowe would be a good signing if he turns his game around once he gets here. He's not playing all that well at KC right now but I still think part of that is Todd Haley. To me he's a guy like Wanny was who worked himself into a HC job that he's nowhere near capable of handling. Besides that he's a dikhead who doesn't have the respect of his players like Lovie does.

We're never gonna get the chance to draft a Jones or a Green or a Larry Fitzgerald in the draft. As bad as we may get I don't see a top 10 pick on the forseeable horizon at that's the place "road ready" WR's go. Floyd is a 6'3" 220 lb guy and so is Al Toon Jr. and one of those guys should be high on our 2012 draft board. If Tice can keep making his particular brand of chicken salad out of 7th round picks an FA lineman we don't need to use round one or two on that so focus on the best WR we can get instead.

Cutler's beginning to get protection and Martz is finally allowing him to use his feet to make plays so the real need is somebody like RWill who can get open 15-20 yards downfield and actually catch the ball. Knox and Hester will always be good as deep threats and Hester can get YAC if they use him right (which Martz seldom seems to do) but we need another guy like Bennett only with a little more size to work that deep middle. That forces the Safeties back out of the box and opens up more space for Forte.

We actually have a better offense than we've had in years. It's just missing a key element or two and it needs to believe in itself which is gonna be a problem as long as Martz is around unless he changes his ways. I just don't think his players are sold on his system because they can't execute it well enough. We all know Cutler isn't. You can't replace half the team but you can replace the OC if things don't continue to improve.
