Bears sign G Ricky Henry
The Chicago Bears signed guard Ricky Henry off the practice squad to the active roster on Thursday.
The 6-foot-4, 310-pound Henry has spent the season on the Bears' practice squad after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska.

Rumors were wrong. They had Horn moving up rather than Henry. Of course if we'd cut that useless tub of lard OMG we could probably bring them both up.

Henry is on the active roster but no word on the official site yet.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Horn is up now Carimi on IR.

I would have preffered for Gabe Carimi to come back and for Chris Williams not to have been injured, but that is the reality that we find ourselves in.
I am actually excited about a couple of young players that are going to get a chance to play.
What gives me hope about Horn and Henry is that they are Tice picked and developed guys. We have seen what Mike Tice has done with raw prospects like Lance Louis and J'Marcus Webb and these guys are in the same boat.
It gives me faith that New Orleans was trying to steal Ricky Henry off of our PR and while these guys may not help this season I think that this development is invaluable for these players and our OL depth.

When a team with OG's like Evans and Nicks show an interest it must mean the kid has something to offer worth developing. We're now down the only two of our own first round Oline picks we had on the team so it's time to find out whether or not these guys can play as well as our 7th rounders.
Horn has always intiugued me because he keeps hanging in there so he must have something they like. Comes from Montana, a small university not known as a football factory but some good lineman have come out of schools like that. Not so much the skill players but the lineman. Chris Henry too. Nebraska is like Iowa and Wisconsin in that they usually have NFL grade Olineman too. I doubt either Horn or Henry will see much playing time unless somebody else gets hurt but it's nice for them to get some practice with the first team so we can see what they've got.
It would excite me no end if Tice can develop these fringe type guys into decent lineman the way he's done with Louis and Webb. Even CWill has adapted and become a nice player at OG. We need to be spending some of our higher draft picks on a top notch pass catcher for Cutler and some Linebackers to learn the defense behind Briggs and Urlacher. I'm not 100% certain Briggs will be back next year after that stunt he pulled in September. If we can get a high enough pick for him I'd say it's 50-50 he'll be gone.

We really dont have any choice do we?
We just lost two out of five potential OL starters.
Interesting that both were drafted in the first round.
Cant Williams play with a cast on his hand?
This is almost like Angelos shit luck nightmare scenario.
You draft them ... but they cant play for awhile.
Someday ... they will all be on the field at the same time.

No more than Urlacher could with a similar injury. In both cases the nerves were threatened and in both cases emergency surgery was needed to elimate that risk. It's not a broken hand or fingers like Spencer has. This was pretty serious.
It's a tough break losing both him and Carimi but Tice has been able to get a lot of mileage out of the lower round picks and FA's. If he can keep getting these guys up to an NFL grade level of play we end up with a very good and very young Oline over the next few years and have some experienced depth behind the starters. Wouldn't it be nice to be in a position of having other teams pursuing our Olineman rather than the other way around?
Like I said, tough break, but it does give us a chance to see what we have in reserve and how close those guys are to being able to hold their own. I'm actually thinking that we may have some talent there that just needs some coaching and experience to play. Martz made some comments ike that about EWill. He said he had all the tools last year but not enough knowledge or experience with the system and he thinks he has that now and he'll do fine. Maybe that's what a few of our PS guys need as well.
I guess we'll know soon enough. If these guys keep it togther and challenge for another NFC Title I'll have to give the coaching staff all kinds of credit. This has been a much tougher year than last year to do it.

Tice shouldnt have to deal with lower round draft picks and FA's.
In Angelos camp ... Tice is Drake. Tice has been able to do with more of the bones handed to him.

Be that as it may I'll but you a steak dinner the day that Angelo ever spends as high as a first round pick on an OG. In his mind that's what he pays Tice for. To turn chicken shit into chicken salad and so far his recipe has been working. If you look over the NFL rosters you won't find many first round OG's but you'll find a lot of 5th rounders and guys who were rookie FA's. I maintain there isn't all that much difference. Find a guy with some size and athleticism whose got some intelligence and you can make a decent OG out of him. OT's and good OC's are a little bit different but quite a few of the better OC's began as UDFA's too. One of the bext we evern had, Jay Hilgenberg, came through that door.
