#Bears place 1st rd pick Gabe Carimi on IR with knee injury. Promote Levi Horn from prac squad.
#Bears had hoped Carimi would return before season was over. Tough break. Rookie played 6 quarters.
As reported after knee scope last week, NFL teams were aware Carimi had knee maintenance at Wisconsin.
Led 2 teams I contacted to put "yellow flag" on Carimi entering draft.
#Bears have now got talented right tackle at a red stop light til next season.
This development enhances chance #Bears sign FA OT Jordan Black Monday, as reported on Wednesday.

This is the right decision there is no need to rush Carimi back and make a mistake in his rehab.
The Bears need Carimi for 10 years, not 10 weeks.
I am excited to see if some of these young guys can develop with this time up.

Agreed. The timing does suck though.

Suck. I'd feel a lot better about this if they would just finally cut Omiyale so there is absolutely no chance of him seeing the field again. Maybe they'll try to work in Horn and Black (if signed) before Omiyale if it comes to that.

Here's where my concern lies, they draft Chris Williams with history of back issues and he misses games first year with back issues. Than they draft Carimi with knee issues and he goes on IR with knee issues.
Brilliant!!

I agree, it is the right move. Its better to protect him than to risk injury. However it creates concern. We already lost CWill. Can Ewill hold up the position? We have no solid backup at Tackle (Omiyale). I hope that Tice picked the right guys. The line was looking good... Enough that I think we could have upset GB. Its exciting and a concern all at the same time. I guess that's what makes the game exciting...

Are you saying Carimi will be our right guard next year?

Maybe Marc Columbo is available.

Yeah, it's a bad break to lose him for the rest of the season but so far we've survived without him mostly because Lance Louis has done a great job of replacing him. We've gotten some benefit out of that since we now know the guy can play and it solves at least one problem of what we do to build up out thinning OLine. Louis play and the way CWill has improved at LG makes it less certain that we have to spend a high draft pick on an OG in 2012.
I don't think Carimi is injury prone and that it's just a freak thing he'll recover from without any problems. It's tough to lose him but it's also forcing the Bears to keep looking at the OT situation as continue to build some depth that isn't named Omiyale. Horn has been around a couple of years now and he got some playing time during the preseason at OG and assuming we sign Jordan Black we get a guy with vet experience who Tice has coached before so he must have some idea of what the guy can do.
I'm just concerned that we don't lose anyone else and end up with a patchwork line going into the home stretch. These guys and Tice have worked so hard to improve that it would be a shame to see all of that fall apart over injuries.
Bears put Carimi on injured reserve
By Vaughn McClure, Tribune reporter 1:09 p.m. CST, November 18, 2011
The Bears have placed rookie tackle Gabe Carimi on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Carimi, a first round pick from Wisconsin, underwent a minor knee scope a week ago. He suffered a partially dislocated right knee cap during Week 2 at New Orleans and hasn't played in a game since.
"Disappointed, yes, but he's been out a while," Lovie Smith said of Carimi. "We've played most of the season without him. Gabe eventually will be a great player for us. But right now, we need other guys to step up, and we've moved on."
Lance Louis has stepped in for Carimi at right tackle and played well. The Bears elevated tackle Levi Horn from the practice squad to take Carimi's place on the 53-man roster.
