JA is slightly above average. He's just above a "C" grade not C+. Don't make him out to be a B or B+. When your a GM who specializes in defense and you have to keep redrafting the same positions over and over again compared to his contemporaries. You lose in players needed on the OFFENSIVE side of the ball.
JA is not the greatest contingency planner either. No FA OL in case of injury or failure? Come on. No #1 wr to see what your franchise qb has to offer? Really? Just NOW getting around to vetting the depth of the O line because you HAVE to out of a bit of desperation. Cut Chris Harris? Fine but Omiyale should have been gone and the cycling of O line depth should have happened LONG before this. What's JA doing? Getting more DE's.
JA has had his run and when his contract runs out he should be gone or sooner. And PLEASE don't install Ruskell in there b/c it will be more of the same crap moved laterally.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Maybe i'm tired, but not seeing where you're going with that. Angelo SHOULD go out on a limb and try more than once to get a WR in the first round, and should certainly front load the draft with offensive talent, but WR is as fickle a position you can get in the NFL when it comes to gambling (besides QB, obviously, but he got our guy) in the draft. Offensive line, especially the interior, is a lot easier to pick the right guy at, but just notice that JA has gotten less "cute" with his picks these past couple of years(no more garrett wolfes or Dan Bazuins, but prototypical players for our system).
Also, Lovie's become less allowing of B.S. out of his team (Martz' playcalling, Chris Harris running at the tweet, Hell, even Forte fumbling twice in one game, despite being our main offensive target).
Like 'em or Hate 'em, they're both here to stay, and given that a lot of whining was conducted about needing an offensive and defensive tackle in the offseason, and both were picked (both of whom had been assumed to be long gone by our pick at 29) without giving up anything, there's more whining about one of them having a friggin' injury now. Well, guess what, they both must be doing something right, as it certainly appears they're going to the playoffs again. I don't know much about coaching or what it would take to be a GM, but I do have this idea that, like every other job that has ever existed, they are "learn as you go" type affairs. That's why it took Belichick's 2nd try at coaching before he got his rings, why it took Tom Coughlin and Bill Cowher so damn long to finally get rings of their own; Bill Polian having multiple seasons of his teams playing like garbage to make their first appearance in the playoffs, to get blown out 41-0 (guess by who), before he could finally build the team the way it needed to be built. i strongly dislike a lot of angelo's decision making, but oddly enough, it seems like the puzzle is starting to fit, and all that's needed are just a few more pieces. If the Bears make the playoffs, it's simply asinine to call for Angelo's head. If we win the Super Bowl in a year or two, I'd hope that those voices have been muzzled.

This team SHOULD make the playoffs. They SHOULD be in contention every year, there is no reason for anything less. A couple pieces were missing at the beginning of the season, and it took a while to get adjusted, and hopefully our lack of depth doesn't sink the ship (OL) My argument is that had those holes been plugged properly, we mightn't have lost a couple of those games at the beginning of the season, and risked potential injuries by playing the crappiest o-line ever- and yes, last year, and the beginning of this one, they were horrible. I would/will be ecstatic over a superbowl win, and when/if that happens, I will get off JA's a$$. not before.

I think Cutler, Forte and Bennett have got us up to #19 ranked this week, LOL. I may be wrong but I seem to remember JA saying many moons ago that it was nearly impossible to have both a top 10 ranked defense and a top 10 ranked offense too. If that's the attitude that he still has and his tendency is to spend the big bucks on the defense we'll always be behind the 8 ball offensively as long as he's GM.
Aside from Cutler two of the most productive offensive players we had in 2010 were Olsen and Forte. One he trades because he doesn't want to pay for a receiving TE for this offense and the other he want to lowball on a contract extension. He won't pay for a better WR so we end up with RWill and he blows the FA signings of two OT's because he won't offer enough to get them away from their teams.
As long as Angelo is GM this offense will always be the poor sister to the defense. Now that we have a champioship caliber QB and RB that has to stop. We need more weapons than Matt Forte or we'll grind him up by going to him too much. In combination Knox and Hester can give us decent deep ball threat and between them haul in some passes but we need that big guy in the middle to match up with Bennett. The guy that RWill should be but isn't.
I'll give Angelo some credit for his defensive acquisitions both in the draft and FA but he gets a big fat goose egg as far as any of the offensive improvement this team has shown. He did far more to hurt that then he did to help it and always will.

Henry if I were you I wouldn't even count on a Super Bowl appearance until the offense comes somewhere close to matching the defense in productivity. This is a good defense but it will never be anywhere near as dominant as the 85 Bears. The rules have changed. Even the 85 offense was more consistently productive then this one. We scored over 400 points that year.
I believe that as long as the Bears offense is constantly playing second fiddle to our defense we will always be playing second fiddle to the Packers of whoever else is the top NFC team. You want to know why we've won more games than the Packers but they've won more championships? It's because we're the best second place team the NFL has ever seen. We may win more consistently but we always fail to win quite enough.

Another thing to never forget. If the Broncos don't put Josh Dumbass in control, Cutler doesn't wind up here. I shudder to think who we'd have at QB right now ( as one of JA's draft picks or FA's or maybe even Orton still ). It's one of the biggest trade f'ups in NFL history... the kind of dumb trade that happens once every 40yrs. He got unbelievably lucky. He ought to call McDaniels and thank him.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?
A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

Yeah, angelo had absolutely nothing to do with building this contender of a team. Jesus... You guys make me sick.

Soul, you do realize we were extremely close to the SB last year, right? I know we don't have the greatest offense in the league, by far, but looking at all the possibilites in FA this year for WR, there really weren't many to chose from. Sidney Rice may have been the best option, but it looks like we didn't need the production he's put out so far (1 td to Rwill's 1), and he was overpaid (which would hinder us in keeping a lot of players we need this year), and even guys like sims-walker (whom I wanted on the team) was a complete bust, so we can criticize his inactivity on a lot of things, but again, we're not giving him credit for picking up a MUCH cheaper WR who's got roughly the same output as this year's highest paid at a discount. He replaced the importance of tommie harris with several cheap players this year, and on his second try got that blocking tight end and change of pace back for Forte. Not to mention the value he got out of undrafted FA's. Honestly, I'd say see how we do this year, and take our hatred for Angelo aside when looking at what he's doing now.
Yes, he's screwed several picks up in the past, but he seems more in tune with the Lovie Smith defense and what Martz is trying to do with offense. We payed a hefty fee for Cutler, so you also have to account for that in the draft.

That is because the dumbass can't draft worth a shit. Defensive player and special teams players are more important than protecting your franchise qb.

That's how I pretty much feel. Few gems here and there in the draft doesn't make up for a career full of blunders.
