This team went to the Superbowl with Rex Grossman playing QB.
You forget that the defenses in 2005 and 2006 were two of the most dominant such units in recent NFL history. This defense we have is good, but it's not up to snuff with those defenses. We will require a lot of luck to get into the playoffs this season.

Agree on both counts. We can't play six more games with only Enderle as a backup. He's nowhere near ready and Bulger is the most "road ready" QB available if he's willing to come in to sit behind Hanie. Caleb Hanie proved his mettle under fire in the NFCC Game against GB and he's earned the right to start. He was Martz's whipping boy in the preseason and when he was called on before he did an admirable job with no preparation at all.
Hanie is due for a contract extension so you know he'll be out there playing hard showing he deserves one and if we decide not to keep him (which would be dumb IMO) he has the opportunity to showcase his talents for other teams. We don't have another Jay Cutler on the bench but Caleb Hanie is a good QB and he's capable of winning games for us.
Sign Bulger or another vet for insurance but let Caleb Hanie have his shot!

As long as we put in OMYFAIL opposite Webb at T on the offensive line.

I vote that we put Martz in at QB behind our offensive line.

Yeah Cutler and Pennington can take turns signing one another's casts.

Who is Caleb Hanie? | National Football Post
"
With Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler probably being out the rest of the regular season, the job of leading the Bears into the playoffs falls on the shoulders of backup Caleb Hanie. Hanie has not had a lot of regular season experience since he has been in the league, and he has a huge job over the next two months. It’s a job that will, in essence, define his career.
Just who is Caleb Hanie and how did he become a member of the Bears?"

Just who is Caleb Hanie and how did he become a member of the Bears?" He came in as a rookie UDFA out of Colorado State. I watched him play two years of college ball out here and he's a very good passer. Mobile, accurate, and a good arm but doesn't have one like Cutler. There are throws Cutler makes that few other QB's in the NFL can make either.
He's smart kid and spent his whole college career in a pro style offense. He's been in Martz offense for almost two years and has understudied Cutler for three. He'll be better prepared to run this offense than anyone we could bring in on short notice.

When you think about it ...
Hanie outranks Cutler on the seniority chart.

Actually I think they traded for Cutler before the signed Hanie but they came to the Bears the same year.

Nope. BEARS signed Hanie in 2008 as an undrafted F.A.
Got Cutler the next year.
