He will be behind Enderle this weekend. Lovie says Enderle is #2 until McCown settles in. I think Orton was the guy they really wanted because he's a better passer and well known to the team but McCown is more mobile and probably a better fit for the way we've been playing.

Ah yes but it's better to suck when on the run than to suck standing still, LOL.

I don't think it is martz pulling the strings for McCown, I think it is just Chicago's history of finding the worst of the worst qbs and signing them to a contract. Before martz we had a nighmare of bad quarterbacks.

McCown may not be much good but he's a better fit for the way the offense is running right now than Orton would have been. Orton was the best QB available but not necessarily the best fit now. Next year maybe but for now all we can do is hope Hanie succeeds because if it gets down to either Enderle or McCown we are screwed.

You make jokes, but Grossman once thrived in a certain once-Floridian coach's offense that draws many comparisons to the Mad Scientist.

McCown trusts judgment
New QB turned club down last year to honor pledge to developmental team

It would have been easy for Josh McCown to walk away from the Hartford Colonials in the summer of 2010 when the Bears called.
The 32-year-old journeyman quarterback had signed with the UFL franchise in the first week of August and the next week Caleb Hanie suffered a shoulder injury in the first exhibition, putting the wheels in motion for offensive coordinator Mike Martz to get the veteran backup he had requested for months.
McCown, who played under Martz with the Lions in 2006, would have been the choice and the Colonials had given him an out. But he knew there would be ramifications for his four kids, then ages 13, 8, 7 and 4, who knew he was headed for a season in Connecticut.
"I wanted to honor my commitment," McCown said. "My wife (Natalie) and I prayed about it and that's what God sent us to do — honor our commitment." (Move over Tebow we got out own God Squad QB now)
Plus, McCown wanted to be somewhere he could play even if the paychecks for eight games in a developmental league don't compare to the NFL. Subsequently, Todd Collins, the backup the Bears settled on, started a Week 5 game in Carolina and was called upon in the NFC championship game.
"I do not try to stand up here as some super spiritual person," McCown said. "That was hard, and you're going, 'Really?' But I am thankful to be here now and be here for however long I can to just help out.
"The Bears called me, but one day I'm going to have to tell my kids they have to stick to what they say. I didn't want them to be able to say, 'Remember Dad, you bailed out.' I'm glad I made the decision I made and everything works out for a reason. I grew as a person."
So, when the Bears called last week after Jay Cutler was lost for at least the next month with a fractured right thumb, the timing was perfect for McCown. He had just finished coaching quarterbacks at Marvin Ridge High in Waxhaw, N.C., in a 10-2 season, the best in school history.
McCown, who has bounced around between the Cardinals, Lions, Raiders and Panthers to start 31 games, is expected to be No. 3 Sunday when the Bears play the Raiders in Oakland. But he could pass rookie Nathan Enderle on the depth chart soon.
"He's very familiar with what we do, so he gives us a guy who can learn quick," Martz said.
McCown last started in 2007 when he got nine with the Raiders. His best season came with the Cardinals in 2004. He threw the first career touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald and was the last quarterback to hand off to Emmitt Smith, trivia answers for one day. He doesn't know what's left in his NFL career, but is embracing this opportunity and says he can handle the most difficult aspect of Martz's scheme.
"It's getting the verbiage back down," McCown said. "There is a high volume and all that stuff, but it's more of the execution and knowing when to cut the ball loose.
"Then learning to rattle off '50 deuce, right jam, scat right, zero nine, F shoot swing,' learning to spit that out is not bad. It's more of when am I going to cut the ball loose? I'll just compete and trust the coaches."
And one day, his kids will know what he means about keeping their word.

I think Orton would have done fine with Chicago if we brought him back. I thought he did well with Denver yet he was screwed out of the starting position because of McDanials did when he traded for Brady Quinn and drafting Tebow.

I'm just glad that Orton got out of the city that hates everybody, Denver. Right now they are all gooey over Teboe, who the fans were certain would jump right into the position and carry the Broncos to the SuperBowl. By begging for Teboe, they gave Orton the big finger and told him they didn't want him any more than they had wanted Cutler. My hope is that Teboe sucks so bad that the Broncos drop in the standings. Then they'll bitch and moan until they have Brady Quinn stepping into a job he's not ready for either. I love being a Bears fan in Denver and on December 11th I will be at Mile High wearing my #6 Cutler jersey both to honor Jay Cutler and to tweak the crybaby Denver fans. GO BEARS!
