Bears Offseason Priority List
This is a list of the areas the Bears need to be addressed in order of importance.
1. WR
The Bears do not have a play-maker at WR and it hurts the offense every week. Jay Cutler has made a mixed bag of #3 WRs look good when he plays, but there is no one that can go up and get the ball. The Bears are handcuffed by their inability to run a slant route on 3rd down, or throwing a fade in the end zone. A WR, especially a bigger WR, will make life easier on Cutler and I do not need to mention that this has become a passing league.
2. LT
I have been one of the biggest J'Marcus Webb supporters, but after watching Ryan Clady I can see that we can upgrade over Webb. Webb has shown flashes of being good and then he becomes inconsistent. If the Bears want to reach their offensive potential the line needs to move from average to good to dominant and the only way for that to happen is too continue to add top end talent to the group.
3. CB
Tim Jennings and Charles Tillman are good and can make plays, but neither of them can shut down a top level WR and both make enough mistakes that they can be upgraded on. A CB with solid size and coverage ability would be a nice add as the Bears do not have options as starting CBs, but are stacked at the Nickle position.
4. DE
The Bears have two starting DEs that have an impact on the game, but both are over 30 and this defense is built on pressure. A young pass rusher with athletic upside would be nice as a developmental player behind Idonije and Peppers. The Bears need to add a pass rusher to the rotation as Wootton has not shown that he can get to the QB.
5. LB
The Bears are in a similar situation at LB that they are at DE as they need to start thinking about the next generation at LB. The Bears do not need a starting LB as Roach, Urlacher and Briggs have shown that they can still play, but developmental players with speed are necessary to take advantage of an opportunity to learn and develop.
6. S
The safety group has youth, speed, some talent and injuries and inconsistency. I think the Bears need a veteran backup who can be a safety net as the young players like Wright and Conte develop.
