All the Blackmon talk is a total pipe dream. He will definitely be a top-10 pick and will be long gone before we have a chance to select w/o a major "move up" trade. That's never going to happen either and wouldn't be worth the cost as we have so many other (OT, LB, DE) needs to attend to. The Falcons did it last year to get JJ but they already had Turner, Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, and a good OL in place. I'm sure Oakland will come to regret giving away the store for Carson Palmer as they now look like they won't make the playoffs anyway. It's only a gamble worth taking if you're "one key piece" away so to speak. The Bears are missing a lot of pieces right now.
I completely agree that Johnny Knox is a waste of time for the reasons we all know well. If he won't re-sign cheap, which I doubt, then let him walk. The guy has been utterly inept except for a few splashy plays. Too bad he has no trade value beyond maybe a late round draft pick which tells you exactly where the overall market values him...pretty worthless.
Most WR draftees (beyond say the high 1st round) end up failing to become impact players and those that do tend to require 2-3 years experience before they show much. That's why JA must sign someone out of FA to start opposite Bennett for next year no matter what the draft brings. Then the team can grab a prospect like Dwight Jones or McNutt in round 2-3 to develop for the future. The WR corps is a disaster right now--Knox, RW, & Hurd are all total failures and Hester has been shown to be a slot man only--so it's gonna take major decisive moves on JA's part to make it even serviceble for 2012.

The prototypical WR ... to this day is Jerry Rice.
6'2" 200 lbs.
Thats all you need with soft hands and the ability to get free from CB's & Safetys.
You cant really compare players from the 80s to players from today..sizes DO change over time, WRs are taller, OL are heavier, RBs are quicker, and so forth.
If you look at the top 3 WRs in Yards, its Welker, Steve Smith and Victor Cruz (5'9, 5'9, and 6'0)
But, top 3 for TDs are TE Gronkowski (6'6), Calvin Johnson (6'5) and Jordy Nelson (6'3)
So yeah...small can be just fine for yards, YAC because of their speed. However, when you get down in the red zone and you want to actually put 6 points on the board through the air...it helps alot to have a taller WR.

I agree completely. And we totally suck at red zone passing as we have no one who can catch the tough slant or the corner fade with consistency. Let's get some WRs with SIZE...we all know that what Cutler needs and wants too.

Everyone has already talked about the top guys, and I know I can come off as a Tarheels fanboy, but I don't think Dwight Jones gets all the hype he should. He's gotten shut down all of one time this season compared to Floyd's three. Now, head-to-head I take Floyd, and DJ's easily got the better QB throwing the ball to him these past two seasons, especially in Renner, but that doesn't change the fact that he simply gets open and makes plays. He's easily ahead of Toon at this point because of a comparatively clean medical history. McNutt needs to have legit wildcard next to his name right there with Jones. Both of their stocks depend almost entirely how they work out. If either runs in the 4.4s, they will both easily be gone by our second pick. Sanu isn't entering the draft while Randle is, so that keeps that second tier class strong. Randle may be a true steal by sheer virtue of the fact that his production has been dampened by having two severely subpar QBs in Lee and JJ toss him the rock.

Thanks Bro !
I guess Halas Hall has to work forward from that. Heres hoping once again for another draft pick season that makes sense.

All things being equal, speed, hands, route running,I take size.
Someone able to pull down the jump ball, and break tackles.
DB's are only going to get bigger,go big with matching talent and speed.
Think about the WR's that create the biggest matchup problems..
