WR vs LT the Major Need
I am starting to think that the Bears need to address the LT position in the draft as there seems to be more talent in the WR free agent class and the draft is deeper at WR.
Free Agent WR
1. Vincent Jackson, Franchised or Resigned
2. Dwayne Bowe, Franchised or Resigned
3. Mike Wallace, Restricted and Will get a 1st and 3rd tender.
4. Marques Colston, Injuries
5. Stevie Johnson, Franchised or Resigned
6. DeSean Jackson, Size and Attitude Problems
7. Reggie Wayne, Age and Injuries
8. Pierre Garcon, solid #2 WR.
9. Mario Manningham, solid #2 with good hands.
10.Wes Welker, a slot guy with NO size.
Free Agent LT
Jared Gaither, red flags.
Demetrius Bell, injuries.
Anthony Collins, rarely played backup.
If we do not address LT in the draft we are looking at Webb, who has been inconsistent or Carimi coming off knee surgery.

So Windy I take it your not marking out anymore on Webb being the man at LT. I believe Carimi gets the nod at LT and pick up a vet. Webb should go back to RT where I think he can develop more. The Knox injury makes it all that more imperative that WR should be the greatest need and revamping the wr corps should be the #1 issue.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

There are NO free agent OTs so where do we get an upgrade.
We need both, but how do we get the OT upgrade that we need?
Webb, inconsistent playing the most important position.
Carimi, more of a RT coming off of a knee injury.
Louis, OG playing OT and struggles with speed rushers.
How do we fix that?
Option 1
Sign WR Marques Colston
1. OT Barrett Jones [Alabama]
2. WR Kendall Wright [Baylor]
Option 2
Sign OT Demetrius Bell
1. WR Michael Floyd [Notre Dame]
2. OG Kevin Zeitler [Wisconsin]

Hopefully there's a surprise cut, but I'm still in heavy favor of trying to get Blackmon. With that said, however, Knox is not gonna be the same player, if he even plays again and Bennett is the only lock at that spot. We've got options at T, though they all have question marks about them (Will Webb ever be able to live to potential, will Carimi be able to get over his knee injury, will Williams stay healthy and is Louis the answer at RT?) oddly enough, Cutler can play with them better than what we have.
TL;DR WR is more important.

I agree that the WR position is the biggest need, but I think that it can be better addressed in free agency.
Lets say we take a WR in round 1, who starts at LT next year?
It would have to be Webb and I am not comfortable with that.
And do not get me wrong I like Webb, but if we want the most out of Cutler we need an OL that is better than average/inconsistent.

I said it before and I will say it again we are a LT and a WR away from being a top 5 offense.
Now another thing with Carimi having knee surgery idk how he will fare at LT but before this season I was confident he would be a staple at LT
Another thing to consider if this is the oline we will be suffering through the future knowing JA numbskull evaluations adding a marquee wr and even another lesser grade one is like adding an OT. Look at the Pack as a good example. They have Jennings, Nelson, Cobb, Jones, and Driver at WR(They have spent 5 2 round picks at WR quality talent(they had a 2 rounder in the draft we took Bradley who was forced into retirement thats why I say 5)) That has helped an equally shitty oline like ours. Look at Cowboys with Austin, Bryant, Robinson, and Witten helps another shitty oline.
It is a proven way to succeed when the oline stinks. Look at the Pack and how Rogers was abused now Jennings is out and so did Romo when Austin was out...

I like what Williams has done at LG this year but lets say we were to get Nicks we could have competition at OT between Williams, Webb, and Carimi

Obviously a change in WR philosophy needs to be made by the team first. Small speedsters just isn't cutting it. Need more diversity in our WR core.
I'd love to see the Bears draft ND's Michael Floyd, but doubt he'll be on the board by the 15th-18th pick or so. We need a big body that can play jump ball in the corners end zone (megatron-like) to help us in the red zone. If nothing else... a quality FA possession receiver pick-up that isn't afraid of going across the middle to help us move the chains when its 3rd and medium/long. I think Da Bears are d@mn near the bottom in converting 3rd downs.
None of my posts on this forum have been aided by the use of deer-antler spray...

Remember though with keeping Martz we will also retain Roy Williams and Darryl Drake. They will still want Hester to be the number one and the effect of drafting and FA may certainly be very diluted. Add to that the redshirting and the playbook that takes awhile to digest there may not be big returns next season. It's going to be a multi-year process to turn the WR corps around.

First, Martz needs to go.
Then if we want an immediate impact at WR it has to come from free agency. WR's have a minute probability of coming out of th draft and producing much of anything in the first few years.
So i say we go with oline early, and take a WR in the second or later round.
