Actually #19 is not very good considering what we need to get in the 1st. Really makes that meaningless 4 point win today worth it, huh?

needed to start enderle in the 2nd half to ensure we lost today. Lovie more worried about a meaningless win then a top 15 pick. Makes that #1 WR thing pretty much out of the question, is there a OT, C, CB or S slotted in that area that we can grab?

De and db could be had around there which is what I expected them to be drafting anyways

Exactly correct. I was expecting Enderle to play at least a quarter and key starters on D to be pulled in the 2nd half. The game had zero playoff implications for anyone so why Lovie didn't play it like a PS game comes down to saving face. Shit, I found myself actually rooting for Joe Webb to scramble and run for a 30 yard TD in the 4th. Would have been much happier with a 20-17 loss and the 13th pick in each round than a useless and ugly win.
We need an OT in the 1st and being #19 probably puts Reiff out of range now. Mike Adams is worth a look.
I don't see a difference maker WR (Floyd, Wright) making it down that far. And, despite the fact that there is some killer pass rusher DEs in this draft, it wouldn't be good value IMO to spend your 1st round pick on a guy who is gonna rotate in for Izzy mostly on passing downs only.
So....that's probably exactly what JA will do and the pass pro will suck again as we pretend that J'MWebb is a starting LT.

Can someone please tell me what the job of a head coach is?

To win the SB. how did dropping 5-10 positions in the draft accomplish that benj?
-
Id rather take a win over draft position any day.
You think the players wanted to play to lose? Hell no. Thats defeatist attitude. Besides, you assume with a higher draft pick, JA would make a smart draft decision, which wont happen in the First round.
We pick 19th. Whoopity doo. Still have enough talent on this team that we dont have to rely on our draft to improve. Heck, if we get lucky and pick up a few decent FA's, then the draft is just bonus.

I'm more nervous about making sure Angelo doesn't have to apologize for another potential draft day trade he reneges on!!

None of my posts on this forum have been aided by the use of deer-antler spray...

Yes, their job is to win a Super Bowl. But it is also to win EVERY GAME THEY PLAY! Throwing a game gets a coach fired. He does what he is paid to do and that is to win every game he coaches.

Really? Let me know how you see us upgrading at OT outside of the draft. Or bring in some youth/depth at CB, DE, and LB. Or getting a young promising WR (a la Randall Cobb, Titus Young, Ricardo Lockette, etc.) to develop. Even with aggressive moves in FA, which I agree are vital, we are going to need some solid picks with our first 4-5 choices.
Saying that "JA would just waste higher picks anyway" is also a defeatist attitude, even if you could somehow prove in advance that was true. The game was competely meaningless beyond being able to say that we avoided a losing season. It had no postseason implications for anyone. In short, it really just was the first preseason game of 2012 and a chance to give reserves some PT and evaluation time. I'm not saying intentionally losing, but pulling some key starters in the 2nd half would definitely not have been a sin. Baseball teams out-of-the-running always try out prospects and bench players in September when playing other non-contenders. Just imagine if Url had suffered a complete MCL tear on that 4thQ play and was lost for a year...
Yeah, I know coaches and players are paid to WIN GAMES as professionals above all else. But you're kidding yourself if some of the above longer-term considerations aren't taken into account. For example, if the Bears hadn't been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, do you think Forte would have been placed on IR last week after an injury he definitely could have been back from by week 17? If the team had had a "win and you're in" game against Minny, Forte (and maybe Cutler too) would have been at least activated and available, if not starting.
