Bears President and CEO Ted Phillips informed Jerry Angelo Tuesday morning that he will not return as the team’s general manager for the 2012 season.
Angelo was hired in 2001 and led the Bears to four division titles, two NFC Championship Game appearances and a Super Bowl appearance in his 11-year tenure as head of football operations.
No other changes will be made. That includes Lovie Smith, who will remain Bears head coach.
The team will hold a press conference today at 4 pm (CT) in the Halas Hall theatre.

It concerns me that in the release on the main site that they are saying NO other changes will be made.
Does that mean Ruskell as GM or does that mean no other changes today?

What usually happens is a new GM is hired he works with the old group for the draft because the prep is already done for the College season and after that he fires everyone and brings in his guys.
This is what happened when Angelo was brought in for the 2002 draft.
I hope the new GM is told he needs to live with Lovie for 1 year and then he can make a decision.

God, I'm nearly ready to climax over this wonderful news! I just hope that Mike Martz will be relieved of his duties next since he is a horrible OC. I can't imagine that Tim Ruskell will get the job as GM over someone like a Bill Polian. If we get Bill Polian, we will suddenly be on par with Ted Thompson and the Packers.

I'm not sure if Bill Polian would have any interest in a step back to GM, but I have no interest in Chris Polian in any capacity.

https://twitter.com/#!/skjensen It would be nice to give the Packers a dose of their own medicine. They are currently the gold standard by which teams build talent. Aside from the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers, I really know of no other franchise that truly compares to the Packers in terms of competence. That being said, I would still like to have Bill Polian, too, if he becomes available, provided that he can take care of depth at the QB position for us.
