I just love Lovie's reasoning for the firing besides the "philosophical differences" was...
“Whenever your quarterback is getting hit, that’s a concern. For me, we have a franchise quarterback first off in Jay Cutler, who is as good as there is. You want to protect him as much as possible.”
Wasn't this already a PROVEN fact of the Martz system before the hiring! Long before Da Bears were exposed with a P.O.S. O-Line even.
I hope this new OC search (4th times the charm!) is different than two years ago, but its hard to see it being any different. Lovie only has 1 official year left on his contract so I can't see upper mgmt willing to sign someone new from the outside and give them job security. The only pros are getting to work with Cutler & Forte within 'our' scheme. Outside of that the new potential OC doesn't even know who (GM wise) will be helping to fill the gaps in the offense. The more and more you think about it the more this OC search is similar to when Martz was picked as our last hope.... which is why I think Tice gets promoted for a 1 year experiment.

promote Tice 1 year, problem solved. After that year, the new GM picks his staff

Its a conspiracy, actually. Lovie and Philips saw the writing on the wall, how their jobs were in Jeopardy, so Lovie agreed to throw Martz under the bus, and Philips agreed to throw Angelo under the bus....making us fans exuberantly happy, while letting them keep their jobs in the process...for another year at least anyway.

Of course, Lovie probably felt like he was doing Martz a favor by hiring him onto the staff.
LOL, no shit...
Martz must have known about JA's fetish for wearing lace panties to meetings in McCaskey's office and blackmailed him with the secret. Thank God I never have to hear again that we just signed some trash cuz "he's a Martz guy".

We all know why...ownership didn't want to eat a 2nd unfinished contract. The between-the-lines I get from this is LS has one year left on his current contract and will be shit-canned by the new GM if the team fucks up in 2012. I would hope that new GM candidates are being told that they have to live with Lovie this year but will get to pick a new HC if the team doesn't make a real playoff run. I hope somehow Toub stays cuz I'd love for him to take over as HC if LS craps the field.

According to nfl.com, Jay Cutler urged Lovie to gt rid of Martz

I'll forgive him for that since everyone else turned us down including my best candidate Jeremy Bates because he wasn't comfortable with Angelo. Well at least Lovie righted the wrong with the Martz firing and now that Angelo is history I hope he'll extend another invitation to interview to Bates. I think a combo of Tice and Bates as OC and Asst OC would get the offense turned around in a hurry.

Lovie is pretty much on a one year win or else leash. The only proviso given to the new GM regarding Lovie is that he stays as coach in 2012. After that Lovie gets no protection from the top.
If they want to keep some continuity and not start from scratch you almost have to keep Lovie around so the GM doesn't have both new player personnel and a new coaching staff on his plate at the same time. I would also guess that they don't see any options who are any better than Lovie right at the moment.
