@DarrylConrad I'd reserve judgment till they hire somebody. McKenzie and DeCosta had good reasons unrelated to Bears. Ruskell is unlikely.

Besides Brad Biggs I don't think there's another Chicago sportswriter with a better finger on the pulse of the Bears than David Haugh. I've admired his writing and insights for quite a while now because he usually tells it like it is. That may not make him the most popular guy with the team of players but his stuff is usually very informational and on target.
As he tweets, both those guys had very good reasons to go in a different direction. Hell DeCosta was given a GM's pay and benefits to stay and because his wife is from Baltimore he'd have a hard time justifying moving to Chicago to take another job for the same pay. McKenzie is a former Raider so it makes sense that he would choose them over Chicago.
Regardless of what may be printed or talked about I believe Tim Ruskell to be an extremely long shot as far as being promoted to GM. Right now that would be a form of PR suicide. Phillips and McCaskey would be roasted alive for it.
At least we don't have Angelo doing the same old, same old anymore. We'll see how it all turns out and welcome you back then Windy.

Let me see if I can clear this up for you. The NFL rule is you can not talk to other teams personal, if the are still playing football. There is one except to that rule if the team has a by week in the playoff you can talk to there personal during that by week. Thats how the Raiders got McKenzie and he didn't want to talk with any other team.

I'm not overly concerned about this whole thing yet. First they have to narrow the field down to who they want interviews with. Then, since most if not all of these guys are under contract their respective teams need to grant permission. Then they need to schedule and conduct interviews.
My guess is if they do these interviews in the order of the guy (s) they want first they want to be in a position to make an offer and negotiate the signing and as JJ points out that can't happen right now with guys who work for teams who are still in the playoff hunt.
They took advantage of that week lull to make an attempt to interview DeCosta and unfortunately that didn't pan out but many thought he was a long shot to leave Baltimore anyway. McKenzie may well have indicated that he would most likely take the Oakland job so interviewing him would have been a waste of time.
I don't think there's any huge rush to get it done. It's better that they take their time and get the right guy.

Really, as long as they have had a hand in drafting a few key offensive and defensive players, and aren't somehow big in Tampa in the late 90s, i'll be happy for now.

The talent that Tampa Bay had in the late 90s/early 2000s was all defensive, although that Super Bowl team was different. Those Buc defenses of the late 90s/early 2000s were some of the nastiest I've ever seen.
