One thing I will say about this is that Tice's offensive schemes won't be nearly as complex as Martz's, so that is a plus for Cutty. There will be a lot more in the way of running plays called, which will lead to more play-action passes and the such. I like the promotion of Mike Tice to OC. I've been calling for it since last year. The best part about it is that he still will have a lot to do with coaching up the OL.

expected this move.
I don't see a problem for the new GM. He can clean the house next year. This is the reason why they just promoted him.
there are many options for the new GM. he gets 1 year to adapt to his new position with a new team and he has a good roster to be competitiv. I don't see a problem. I just think they don't wanted to fire Lovie. I just think they want him to go when his contract is over and they can go out and say he wanted to see something different and do something else - or whatever

Got to love how the bears DC and OC get their promotions for doing jack shit. Rod Marinellie got the DC for improving the DL sacks by 1.5 and Tice did such a wonderful job shaping this OL into a fine tuned oiled machine.

Yeah, but the difference is...the new GM pretty much HAS to agree with you...since there's nothing he can do to change it. If he sees a problem with HC or OC...its not "im gonna fix the problem," its "too bad, thats who you are stuck with"
Im not suggesting that Lovie or Tice dont deserve the jobs, but to make that decision before we even hired a new GM is pretty ridiculous.

Can the Bears just announce Ruskell as the GM already? I mean come on we all know its going to happen that way anyway. they might as well put us fan out of our misery already so we can get prepared for another decade of mediocrity.

I like the Tice promotion! Will get the Bears back to the pounding running game, and the play action pass. I'm hoping we get back to form with Tice! Now let's get a new GM in here, and get the pieces were missing!

I like the Tice promotion too if for no other reason than it makes the most logical sense if you want to retain some continuity in the offense and not start over with a whole new system to learn. I think one good thing that will come from it is that Tice will adapt to the talents of his players rather than forcing them to adapt to him as Martz did.
Tice sounds like he's not afraid to throw deep on occasion but that won't be the featured play in his offense. We did well with playaction, roll outs, and a moving pocket so that's what I think we can expect to see a lot of. I think we'll also see TE's being thrown to more often. If we look at the Packer offense as being a model for the current NFL trends then I think Tice will run his much closer to that than Martz ever would.
The other factor Lovie had facing him was him being in the same situation as he was in the last time we went OC shopping. He only has two years left on his contract and only one of those is assured. Not exactly the kind of job security that would entice everyone to uproot to Chicago.
Like the position I've taken regarding the hiring of a new GM I think this is the best that can be done under the circumstances which exist. It's far from perfect but no one can claim that it isn't an improvement on what was. I don't think it gets much more dysfunctional than that.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

If he doesn't like it he only has to deal with it 1 year. It's not like the new GM will go next year. This is about longterm

Nevermind that Marinelli has now, for two straight years, built one of the top defenses in the league in points allowed for back-to-back years, and how Tice made a piece of shit offensive line look halfway decent for parts of two seasons when he really had nothing with which to work. Yeah, I'd say that they did nothing.
