Bears name Tice offensive coordinator
By Vaughn McClure Tribune reporter
Mike Tice has been named the offensive coordinator of the Bears, the team announced Friday morning.
Tice, 52, had been linked to the position ever since he signed a one-year extension last February. Speculation continued throughout the 2011 season as Martz's future became in doubt.
Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported that Tice will be in charge of the Bears' running game and the team will hire a passing-game coach.
Tice, the former Minnesota Vikings head coach, never has been a coordinator. The Bears blocked Tice from interviewing for the offensive-coordinator position with the Tennessee Titans last offseason.
"You're always disappointed when you don't have a chance to better yourself, professionally, and that's what the interview process is all about,'' Tice said in November. "I wanted to do that interview.''

I like the move.
1. He knows the personnel and has a grasp of what they can and cannot do, something Martz never thought of.
2. He called plays in Minnesota and was involved in the process in Jacksonville.
3. Our offense got better when he stepped in and started having more input on game plans.
This is not like hiring Bill Walsh, but I am fie with the move.

Well that news makes my post about it moot. I'm in favor as well and I really hope they can convince Jeremy Bates to pair with Tice to coach the QB's and the passing game. This is pretty much how I envisioned it going anyway.
I think it would have been real hard to overstep Tice and bring in somebody else after you denied him the opportunity to leave for an OC post last year. If Lovie did that Tice would have been gone just as soon as his deal was up.
I think this assures the most continuity for the offense as we could probably expect. If Tice can keep that which worked and eliminate what didn't we don't lose any ground. They should be able to use the same basic terminologies as well.
One more positive is that Tice isn't the enigma that Martz was. I still think the only one who truly knew what was on Mike Martz's ,mind was Mike Martz. What he said, what he thought and what he did were often three separate things.
I see the Tice promotion as a good thing.

figured as such, what OC would really want to come here when the whole coaching staff might be gone next year. this is why i say this whole process was half assed (something im use to being a bears fan and all). this same situation is what landed us Martz in the first place, basically forcing us to take the left overs.
I have a feeling thats whats going to happen with the GM as well.

McClure's report has been revised to include this.
The Bears said Tice will call the plays and continue to work hands-on with the offensive line, much like defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli does with the defensive line. The team will hire both an offensive line coach and quarterbacks coach. The quarterbacks coach is expected to help coordinate the passing game.

Let's hope they can land Jeremy Bates as QB coach or passing-game coach.

Appears the Bears top two GM candidates are off the board... reports are Raiders are signing McKenzie and DeCosta staying in Baltimore.
Two steps forward [firing angelo], one step back [promoting Ruskell]

LOL typical Bears, we will probably just end up leaving Ruskell as our GM

There's more to this move than just promoting Mike Tice. It appears that the Bears will be staying with Tim Ruskell as their GM. This move has that written all over it. Why would you handcuff whoever you bring in?
What makes it more obvious, Reggie McKenzie and Eric DeCosta are both off the board.

yeah the more I look at it the more it looks like Ruskell is our man. man its hard being a bears fan sometimes.
