yttocs say BEAR DOWN!
Well we could go WR in the first round ... and also see what Emery has up his sleeve at WR in F.A.
We are on a new ship sailing into uncharted territory.
The chances of us having two new WR's on board ... one a vet ... one a draft ...
could happen.
Bowe & Floyd? Dont put it out of your mind.![]()
Stanford junior offensive tackle Jonathan Martin said he will enter the 2012 NFL Draft.
"I have decided to forgo my final year of eligibility and enter the NFL draft," Martin tweeted. "Thank you to everyone who has loved and supported me."
Martin is the No. 3-rated offensive tackle eligible for April's draft,
Behind only fellow juniors Matt Kalil from Southern California and Iowa's Riley Reiff.
At 6-feet-6 and 305 pounds, Martin is known for his athleticism and considered a good fit for a zone-blocking scheme.
He was quarterback Andrew Luck's blind-side protector and has the skills to remain on the left side in the NFL.
Luck and guard David DeCastro announced before the Fiesta Bowl that they intend to leave the Cardinal a year early for the NFL as well.
Now we get into the meat and potaos of THE CHICAGO BEARS ...
and we dont know where the fuck this is going yet.
THE QUESTION : Is Emery a trade up or trade down kind of guy?
I'll say this much, Jackie. Here is my list of preferences position-wise of who we draft in the first round:
1) LT
2) DE
3) LB
4) WR
5) CB
I really, really have a stiffy for a LT, something that the Bears don't anything about having a good one of and haven't had a good one of since the 1980s. We can take care of getting a WR and DE in free agency as well as the rest of the position players throughout the draft. But I want a LT in the first round that will be someone I can depend on for the next 10-12 years protecting Jay Cutler. That's what I want, and I want it NOW!
I hate to say it, but we're not getting a LT first round. We'll probably get a backup, but we aren't getting a bona fide left tackle to replace Webb.
Nuh uh uh! Don't ruin my moment of zen! There are some mock drafts out there that are projecting the Bears to take Adams in the first round. Let's hope that they do, because otherwise we're in a lot of trouble. We can't have Cutler going down all over the place and have no time to get the footbal to his receivers again this season.

Yes, because mock drafts know how the Bears will operate. Tice has already said it. He has confidence in Webb, and honestly he should be given a shot to prove himself through training camp. With a full offseason and no regular seven step drops, Webb will improve. I'm not saying he's the next Joe Thomas, but he should be a competent LT next year. If not, he's gone. We aren't in a position to trade up to find our franchise LT because we have dire needs in multiple positions, which cannot all be solved in FA. Another thing that will help Webb, is if our line will actually have some stability. Between all of the injuries, how is the line supposed to function as a unit when they're playing with a new guy to the left or right of them every few games?
By no means am I saying that Webb is a Pro-Bowl player, but I'm saying it doesn't add up. We'll be reaching to even get Mike Adams, and even with a great performance at the Senior Bowl, he still got lit up plenty of times this season, which is where you should really look at a player, instead of just one great performance at the Senior Bowl. If he really was great, he'd have performed at this high of a level all season. So between us having plenty of other needs, and even Adams being somewhat of a reach at our spot, don't count on getting a LT.
In a draft that deep in WR talent and short on LT's and pass rushers why would you reach for WR Henry? You tell me. If you're the Bears GM and you have those holes to fill on your line that are just as important or even more important why reach for a Floyd when there's talent all the way done to the third round.
How much good did the Packers WR do against the Giants? How about Welker and Gronkowski against them in the SB? The Giants beat the two best offenses in the NFL with a decent Oline that gave Eli time to throw and a pretty average core of receivers. Not one All Pro in the bunch. Their defense won them those games.
Between the guys in FA and the depth of WR talent in this draft if Emery can't solve that problem without reaching for a WR in round one I will be very disappointed. That's the logic of it whether you agree of not is up to you. Differences of opinion don't make either of us wrong.
Draft a Badger. They're mean little critters. Honey Badger Don't Care. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit.
