Chicago Bears CHICAGO BEARS 2012 Draft

Just noticed there was not one.

Boston College junior LB Luke Kuechly and Oregon junior RB LaMichael James have announced they will be entering the 2012 draft.

Kuechly, a two-time All-America selection who led the nation with 191 tackles in 2011 is considered to be a potential late first round selection this year depending on how fast he runs at pre-draft testing.

Meanwhile, James ran for over 1,800 yards this fall despite missing a couple of games with an elbow injury, but could last well into the second day of the draft as he isn‘t all that big at just 5-8, 185.

ASU QB confirms draft entry ... Arizona State junior QB Brock Osweiler has formally announced that he will be leaving school this winter and entering the 2012 draft.

The 6-8 Osweiler threw for over 4,000 yards and 25 TDs this fall and projects as a second-day pick this coming April.

Hokie HB headed to NFL ... Virginia Tech junior RB David Wilson announced this morning that he will forgo his senior season and enter the 2012 draft.

Wilson is a second-day prospect who is expected to be one of the first 4-5 RBs off the board this coming April.

Badger C to enter draft ... Wisconsin junior C Peter Konz has reportedly decided to leave school and enter the 2012 draft.

The 6-5, 315-pound Konz is considered to be the top C in college football and a possible late first round pick this coming April.

Owls RB enters draft ... Temple junior RB Bernard Pierce has announced he will entering the 2012 draft where he figures to be a mid-round pick.

The 6-0, 220-pound Pierce ran for almost 1,500 yards and 27 scores this fall despite missing one game with a concussion and being slowed in a couple of others with a hamstring problem.

Thanks for the post up jackie. Maybe we should sticky this and use it to start listing college prospects the Bears might be looking at.

I think Konz is a very good player. Probably an OC version of what we got in Carimi as an OT but I wouldn't spend a first round pick on him when we have Spencer and just extended Garza for two more years. The guys we use our top choices on need to make an impact now, not three years from now and we have bigger needs than an OC no matter how good he might be. JMO

Brock is kind of a beast. I would love for him to be our developmental QB, but it's pretty early to say anything about Enderle.

That's kind of intriguing. A QB whose taller than everyone he throws to. The other guys would need stilts to bat down his passes. The thing about Enderle is that he was Martz's guy and Martz is gone. From what I could see of him in preseason he's just a big immobile pocket passer which is the type of guy Martz wanted. I don't think that's what Tice will want.

If it's a given that we need a vet backup and we're willing to accept a guy without much mobility then we should try to coax Orton into coming on board and let him compete with McCown and whoever else is left for a #2 spot. I wasn't all that impressed with McCown as a passer but at least he's mobile.

I'd love that too but, not to rain on anyone's parade, I gotta believe KO is gonna go wherever he can to compete for a STARTING job rather than a settling for backup-only role. Hope I'm wrong but I gotta believe that he sees himself as a potential starter for some team in 2012.

Meh, I don't get too caught up in the mobility stuff. The two best QBs of the decade can't run for shit which goes to prove that if you can pass the ball successfully, you can play in this league. Enderle can make all the throws and then some with his arm, whether he has the intangibles to succeed is yet to be answered.

People need to stop the Orton as backup stuff, because it's just not happening. With QBs like Rex Grossman, Matt Moore, Tavaris Jackson, Mark Sanchez starting, it's safe to say he'll find a job starting somewhere and at the very least has around 8 spots where he can go in with a legit chance of winning the job.

Can't say I disagree with you about Orton. He'd be giving up a lot of $$$ to come to Chicago as a backup when there are teams out there he could start for. He wasn't willing to take a hit in order to go to the Dolphins last year where he'd have been far better off than Denver so it's not likely he'd play for only a couple of mil in Chicago.

What are your thoughts about delayed gratification by waiting until the second or third to draft a WR and using that first on a pass rusher? Which guys that fit the bill would probably still be on the board around the 19th pick?

Only if we land a legit #1 in FA. Otherwise, we really need to get an Alshon or Floyd type talent and I'm not buying those guys dropping to 2 for a second. Sanu could climb into the discussion if he works out beyond expectations, I just don't like his lack of suddenness. He's too much of a round route runner for my taste.

As far as drafting DE in the first if we get that FA, hells yeah. Mercilus is a freak as is Ingram and I would take either in a heartbeat. Honestly, though, if we can manage to land our FA WR, I'm starting to agree with trade up or BPA approach for once. There's a good chance one of those DEs would be close enough to BPA in that area to be the right pick, but I would much rather trade up and make sure we get Reiff or Martin to secure LT.

I would prefer a stud CB, but it's looking less and less likely that one will be in that area. Minnifield is really the only guy I like from mid to back end who has declared right now, but Trufant, and Gilmore could change my mind during the postseason workouts. More and more it's looking like the second is the prime area for a CB.

    Thanks for the comeback sox.

I gotta feeling that we virtually have to get a #1 WR in FA no matter what the cost. Every game we're without one we waste more and more of Cutler's talents and more and more he gets put on his ass because, with the exception of Bennett, guys don't get open like they should. Plus, I'm just not sold on Floyd period. I think Jeffry would be the better choice of the two but I'd still rather subordinate WR to round two and a guy like Toon.

We've got an extra third we could deal if it could be used to get us a good LT or the best DE if those guys fall out of the top ten. Personally I could live with that much easier than drafting a WR I'm not sure of. With Angelo out of the way maybe there won't be so much hesitancy to trade up for the right guy rather than settle for the second best pick on our board as I believe he did far too often.

Listening to Tom Waddle on ESPN he made the point that all too often Angelo would draft system guys rather than the better player. We're all very aware of the fact that Lovie seems to dote on certain guys and their specific skills but those guys aren't always the best choice. Waddle made the point that the new GM can't be afraid to step in and use his superior evaluation skills to push back and insist we draft for talent and not the system.
