Would have to take Lovie leaving and players going with him to see a fresh start.
If Lovie is the best option for HC in 2012, then so be it. Id rather just hear that from our new GM after he considered the options, than to have them declare "Lovie is our QB...err...HC" while we sit here and wait for a new GM. This whole mess is truly mind boggling.

This is what happens when you do things half-assed.
No executive worth his salt wants to come into an organization that is hiring, promoting, signing, even before he's hired.
More than anyone, a GM has the power to put his personal stamp on a team. It's why some power coaches insist on being dual-hatted; they want their stamp as well as their game plan.
And one more log for the fire... the Bears have gone without a GM before. There's nothing that says Ruskell will be 'promoted' to GM. He could still make a ton of decisions with the title he currently has.
Mackenzie is the story. I think taking Oakland over Chicago is telling; either we suck or he was never contacted. I just can't see the guy pulling roots (with many of them in Chicagoland) and moving to the west coast simply because the Raiders have more potential.

This is exactly the reason why I quit following the Dallas Cowboys in the mid-1990s, because of the coaching carousel that commenced under Jerry Jones. In this case, ownership took care of player and coaching personnel decisions as well. It got to where it was ridiculous. I was a huge Jimmy Johnson fan, especially with how he built up the Cowboys to winning two Super Bowl championships in '92 and '93.
That being said, I tend to believe more of what Peter King and John Clayton have to say than what the people on "The Score" said. I don't live in Chicago and only know about "The Score" from what people on this site say about it, but local newspapers and media outlets don't know jack shit about these situations that take place on a national basis. The Bears should be a desirable job if for no other reason than the fact that they are one of the four or five most storied franchises in NFL history along with the Packers, the Giants, the Cowboys, and the Steelers. The problem is definitely the front office. For a true cleanup job to occur from top to bottom, you must start with the President and CEO of the Bears, which would mean that Ted Phillips needs to go. About the only level that needs to stay is ownership, and that's only because it would take a fucking earthquake to bring down the McCaskey house of cards. I'm starting to waver a little bit on letting Lovie Smith stay on as head coach because if it's true that he is the reason that some of these GM candidates are showing some reservations about the Bears job, he needs to be sacrificed for the good of the team. If Brian Urlacher, who is the face of the Bears, doesn't like it and wants to bitch about it, he can go by the wayside along with Lovie if that is what must be.

Remember when the Redskins brought in their offensive and defensive coordinators and then were looking for a coach and nobody wanted to take the job and then they just gave it to Zorn as everyone else turned them down. Welcome Tim Ruskell another year wasted until someone cleans house top to bottom.

Something I was thinking about last night and you guys let me know if it makes no sense. The Bears are the only 'major market' team in our division. If we were in a division with Dallas and the Giants, for example, do you think the organization would feel the need to step up their game at all? I think it might ultimately be a good thing for the Bears that Green Bay is doing so well the last couple of years due to the 'All we need to do is win the division' mentality that they seem to have at Halas Hall. The changes that are being made are being done solely because Green Bay and Detroit are having the success they're having. If we competed with NY and Dallas every year would that cause the organization to keep pace on a more consistent basis because of the increased national media attention? Like I said, just a thought I had.

What you are seeing is the Bears trying to appease the fans, nothing more. We called for the head of JA and Martz, and thats exactly what they gave us. However, someone failed to tell them that the reason WHY we wanted JA's head was because we wanted new leadership in the GM position, a GM who is going to do what it takes to win a championship, to build a proper team. But no, just a like a bad spouse...they are simply going through the motions, they dont care about us anymore.

This tells ya something....
McKenzie hasn't even been introduced as the Raiders' new GM and he has already fired the HC.
None of my posts on this forum have been aided by the use of deer-antler spray...

It has been reported that McKenzie was chosen for that job shortly after Al Davis died and some think he was identified by Davis before he died. He is a former Raider and they interviewed 0 other candidates. McKenzie was a done deal before the season ended.
Panic when the Colts or Rams hire a GM.
