I agreed with most of the grades but knocked a few down and pushed a couple a bit higher. Here are some of the differences I thought were fair and reason why.
McCown - C; Just not all that outstanding to get any higher. We still need a better #2.
Barber - D; Anytime you cost your team two games with rookie mistakes you get slammed.
Clutts - A; I thought the guy did a fabulous job at FB. They should give the guy some carries too.
Hester - A; It's not his fault he's been misused as a WR. I give him this as a record breaking
PR.
Knox -C; Just not enough consistency and that slip that cost us Cutler looms big in my mind.
Bennett - B; I give him a full B as the best WR we have. Too bad Hanie couldn't find him.
Sanz - D; He made the team because of his hands and then competed with RWill for drops.
RWill - F; How do you not give a former top pick an F for being such an underachiever.
Spaeth - C; Good blocker, bad pass catcher, but his missed block in KC game cost us Forte.
Garza - A; Gotta give a guy who hasn't played OC since college an A for efforts. Pro Bowl alt.
Louis - C; He was well on his way to a B of B+ until he somehow forgot how to pass block.
CWill - B; Deserves more than a C. Was most consistent lineman before injury.
EWill - B; Did a nice job at LG for a natural OC. Pass blocked well.
Carimi- B; He couldn't help being injured. Best pass blocker before he went down.
OMG - F; There isn't anyway you can give this assclown higher after that Detroit showing.
Wootton - C; I'm downgrading him for not being tougher after hand injury. Suck it up.
Paea - B; Strength and burst combination is incredible. He just needs to diagnose better.
Briggs - B; No way a guy who can't cover his man and allows TD's gets an A from me.
Bowman - D; Whatever he may have gained he lost back in the Packer game and ST screw up.
Meriweather - F; How can you go from making a Pro Bowl to sucking that bad? Expensive wasted.
Steltz - C; Great tackler but can't cover worth shit. Good ST and backup SS but that's it.
Wright - D; Played better as a rookie. Too many blown covers and missed tackles for a Safety.
Well that's how I graded them. Those that I graded the same I left off the list. Probably the most beneficial thing is that the team graded out better as a whole than the record would indicate. Injuries really took their toll and few of the backups stepped up to the level of the starters. I guess that's a reason to be optimistic.
Another offseason with a big cap excess and a GM who won't avoid filling the glaring holes, 4 good early round draft choices to add depth and a healthier 2012 and there's no reason this team can't challenge for a NFC Championship next year. Those are all big ifs but I'll believe it can happen unless they fuck up this GM hire and with it offseason acquistions.
