Bears Denied Opportunity to Interview Loggains.............

Titans deny Bears' request to interview QB coach

As expected, the Tennessee Titans shot down the Chicago Bears’ request to interview quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains for a similar position, according to a league source.

Loggains is under contract to the Titans and cannot make a lateral move without the team’s permission.

The Bears were interested in talking with Loggains about overseeing the passing game, as new offensive coordinator Mike Tice is in charge of the running game and the protections.

Last year, the Titans wanted to interview Tice to be their offensive coordinator, but the Bears denied them permission to speak with Tice.

Loggains is credited with helping Matt Hasselbeck transition to a new offense last season, and also with developing Jake Locker. He is in his fourth season with the Titans and previously was a scouting assistant with the Cowboys.

It is believed the Bears remain hopeful that they will have a chance to hire Jaguars offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter for the job, but Koetter remains under contract to the Jaguars and may have better options.

No surprise here. Since we denied them a shot at Tice they've decided to return the favor so Jay Cutler's first choice for a QB Coach and Passing Game Coordinator is a "no go". If the Bears were really serious about this guy why not emphasize that he'd be an Asst. OC and have some play calling responsibilities. The title is meaningless with the exception of using it to get around his contractual obligations.

Dirk Koetters name keeps coming up but I can't figure out why Jeremy Bates hasn't been mentioned. I know Tice has worked with Koetter before but the guy wants an OC position so he's not interested at the moment. Koetter has never worked with Cutler before whereas Bates has. I would think that if Loggains isn't available than maybe Bates would be his next choice.

Why not get a guy Cutler is familiar with rather than one Tice is familiar with?

Because coaches pick assistants, not players. Just like owners choose gms, not coaches.... Wait.

Yeah, it was more of a rhetorical question anyway. If Loggains was a guy Cutler was interested in having then it's obvious he has some input on the hire.

Yeah, I'm sure he does have some input too. I'm not hearing bates name at all. I wonder if the debacle in Seattle ruined his chances at another job.

I wouldn't think so but who knows. It may be more likely that since he turned them down before he's burned a bridge with Lovie. You know how he gets when someone gets in his doghouse.
