Excuse me while I whip this out...
Okay, slow day, and the Bears are being the Bears. I would not be surprised if the Bears bring in the (4) GM candidates and then turn around and promote that Eddie Haskel boob. This just REEKS of Russ Grimm all over again...LOL...but, I digress.
I just wanted to relate a thought. I want the NFL to modify extra points. They have altered the way in which contact can be made against a QB. They have altered the amount of contact one can have with WR's. The have altered the kick-off. They have adjusted how O-lineman may position themselves at the line of scrimmage. And so on...
Okay, CAN WE PLEASE CHANGE THE MOST BORING, TEDIOUS, ASPECT OF PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL...!?! I would like the "extra point" moved back to the (25) yard line, OR, eliminate it completely. If it is eliminated, the (2) point conversion would become the norm...
Extra points are F'ing stupid. Getting points should be a challenge, not something that is mostly automatic. I think this would really make the game MORE exciting...!!!
Thoughts, comments, donations...?!?

I'd go along with that. In the NFL they are almost automatic. Any kicker who misses more than one won't have his job very long. Either make a TD worth 7 points and add another point or two for a successful run or pass from the current spot or move the XP back to being a 35 yard attempt. Either of those would make it more interesting.

Fun fact: nobody REQUIRES a team to kick a PAT. They can go for 2 points every single time if they so choose.
I think its fine the way it is. It builds tension towards the end of the game when people actually have to decide whether or not to go for 2, or taking the easy point and relying on defense to get the ball back.
Plus, its one of the few ties to the origins of football. When they first started, it was flipped: TDs were worth virtually nothing, and it was the PAT that was worth all the points. They scored TDs to put them in position to kick the points (hence = football!!). Much of the game has changed, but the good ol' PAT is still around. I dont really see the need to change it, just because its "automatic."

The extra point is probably one of the oldest traditions still alive in the game and I don't see it being changed anytime soon.... BUT
How about they kick extra points "doug flutie punt style" from the 20 yd line and instate a live ball rule like college.. I say give the defense a point if they are able to block the kick and 2 pts for a return across the goal line.
For two-point conversions put the ball on the 10 yard line so a run or pass are still an option.

Great tidbits! Did not know that. I'd be fine with them moving the PAT back a few yards, but don't think they need to get too fancy with the alternatives. Giving the defense a point for blocking it might be interesting, though.
