More like one step forward, two steps back. It isn't even a lateral move, it is entirely a negative move for the organization both philosophically and operationally.

I'm still betting it won't be Ruskell but if the hire Emery based on the fact that he and Ruskell have worked together before I wouldn't be exactly shocked if Ruskell kept his job as a personnel director. Just sayin'.

I really do not have a huge problem if Ruskell for some reason hold his job after the draft as the Pro Personnel guy is really a glorified paper pusher if you have a strong GM like Emery.
The truth is that Ruskell has not been terrible in his role with the Bears and the Chris Spencer, Amobi Okoye and as bad as he was late Marion Barber signings were nice and we had a very good draft as Carimi, Paea and Conte all look like long term solutions for the Bears.

The only thing that will satisfy me is if the entire front office from GM down to the scouts is overhauled. This front office needs a change in culture in the worst way. Will it happen? Only time will tell. I'm hoping that Phil Emery won't get the job as the Bears GM because he sounds like Jerry Angelo v2.0 from what I'm hearing out of Sox. I don't think it would much of a philosophy change with Emery since he has only made a few draft picks that were worth killing. (Granted, he did pick fellow UT alum Eric Berry, but the rest of his picks haven't turned into much, and Berry was on IR all season this past year.) I really wish that Ted Phillips would get his head out of his ass and pick either Ross or Raye. Raye would be good PR because it would look like the Rooney Rule worked, and Ross has a Super Bowl ring to show for his efforts. Emery has one division title with the Chiefs and that's it. They went from the hen house to the outhouse in a hurry, although there's not much one can do about injuries.

It will be whoever Ted Phillips wants it to be and accepts the terms that go with it. There are a lot of NFL people out there that are saying they believe Emery would be a good choice. I want a guy who knows how to make tough decisions on the fly. Somebody who walks in and looks things over then asks what it will take to turn this thing around in 2012 and goes out and does the right things to make it happen. If that's Emery fine and if it's someone else that's fine too.
I'm sick and tired of watching all the half measures that were taken during the Angelo regime and ridiculous thoughts like getting a top QB will make all pros out of 2nd tier receivers. I want a guy who not only doesn't think Devin Hester is a #1 WR, I want a guy who knows he isn't and then goes out and gets one who is.
I want some attention paid to the offensive needs too. We need to score points to win. This defense can't hold the other guys to 10 points a game anymore. I want a guy who isn't self delusional like Angelo and a guy who isn't afraid to part ways with Lovie if things don't turn around. We either win big in 2012 or it's time to tear it down and rebuild it but I won't accept that happening now as long as there's still chance of getting the job done.
