I thought the word was that Ruskell would not be interviewed again? Either that means he's no longer a candidate or they don't feel the need to interview him again because he's a known quantity. I still can't see Ted Phillips getting up there and announcing Ruskell as the GM. He'd be roasted in the press and by the fans. I don't think even the Trib's "feel good" stories about Ruskell would help bail him out of that.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

In Kansas City, Pioli said Emery runs all of the Chiefs’ draft meetings, and he’s a key voice on draft days in their draft room.

Asked if Emery is ready to be a GM, Pioli said, “You only find out if you’re ready when you get into it.

    “But, yes, I do believe he’s ready. He’s a strong decision-maker.”

    K.C.

But in Mobile, where NFL scouts, coaches and personnel executives have descended to evaluate college players, the reputations of Licht and Emery are strong among their peers.

Licht is known for his affable personality, his ability to assess players and his versatility, given his experience as both a college and pro scout.

Emery was described by several sources as “a grinder” because of his unrelenting passion to find players, as well as for his resourcefulness.

Two good candidates, two separate personalities it seems, both strong evaluators of talent, one an old hand in the Bears organization the other from one of the best run organizations in the NFL. I really don't know how we go wrong with either.

Which by BEARS standards means it will be Ruskell as new GM.

I'll tell you how we go wrong. It's by hiring someone who was once a member of our organization during the Michael McCaskey/Jerry Angelo eras. Stay as far away from that as is humanly possible.
