    Little Draft Game...

    going by this 2012 NFL Draft Prospects - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com
ranking, I took only the players that were left if everything was drafted like on the ranking

I made 1 trade going with NFL Draft Pick Value Calculator
as calculator to get fair trade value

    #19 (1st) & #142 (5th) from CHI for #24 (1st) & #88 (3rd) from PIT
    910 <--> 890

this is what I think would be a good Draft for us

    1st Round
    #24 DE Whitney Mercilus, Illinois

    2nd Round
    #50 WR Nick Toon, Wisconsin

    3rd Round
#74 OT Nate Potter, Boise State
#81 CB Coryell Judie, Texas A&M
#88 SS Harrison Smith, Notre Dame

    4th Round
#112 ILB Audie Cole, North Carolina State

    6th Round
    #174 TE Deangelo Peterson, LSU

    7th Round
#205 QB Kellen Moore, Boise State
I really hope the Bears draft him...

what do you think and have fun if you want to do the same

I don't think that Kellen Moore will last until the seventh round, but if he does, I'd take him. That kid was prolific in college, and with quarterbacks failing constantly, it's not as if drafting him later rounds (starting at 5) is going to do any damage.

going with this ranking, he would have been available. So I thought take him ;)
And other than that, would you like this draft?

but lets see your "perfect draft"

I'd say it covers the needs pretty well through the first three rounds if we discount free agency completely but since free agency comes before the draft so who knows how that may affect the draft for the Bears and others.

Mercilus may not be the most complete DE in the draft but he was a monster pass rusher in college. He may end up being one of those boom or bust guys but he'd be hard to ignore at that point. Pass rushers are usually just too scarce to make it past the first round.

I like the thought of taking Toon in the second over Floyd in the first. I think he's less of a risk and it's pretty obvious I like guys from Wisconsin. I watched his Dad play there in the early 80's and he was a good WR then and had a decent pro career as well. Good family pedigree. Those guys usually adapt well to the pros.

All of the third round guys hit areas of need but I don't know a whole lot about the DB's. Potter has some skills as a pass protector, you couldn't play LT at BSU if you didn't, but I don't know if he's the kind of kid Tice prefers. He seems a bit on the light side so I'd think he'd need to add some bulk and strength to fit into Tice's plans but who knows. We need to start spending some higher draft choices on OT's to get someone else in the hopper for the future.

Don't know much about the guys in the 4th and 6th but Moore is an intriguing QB pick at the tale end. As good as he is in college though he has two strikes against him coming into the pros. One he's on the small side, very small, and two he's a lefty. The third strike may be that BSU QB's and RB's don't necessarily make good pros. I think we've had some experience with that before.

Based on what we know right now that's a good shot at filling some needs.

There are just too many scenarios to think about in a "perfect" draft but getting needs and redundancy in FA I would think it would look something like:

    FA: DE, WR, SS

    Draft
    1-WR (Floyd?)
    2-WR (Toon)
    3-OL
    3-TE
    4-LB
    5-WR/KR or DB/KR (speed)
    6-LB
    7-BPA

Must cuts: Omiyale, Rwill. Please fire Drake if we draft WR's!!

I think you hit on a lot of needs that we can/should look to address in the draft. Interesting wrinkle to add a 3rd pick in what looks to likely be a talent-rich 3rd round for depth players.

1st: Unless we somehow can get one of the top OTs, I think a pass-rusher or a CB is a wise choice here. I really don't want to use this pick on a WR unless he's definitely the BPA by far somehow. That's for FA and later in the draft.

2nd: Toon is not my favorite round 2-3 WR prospect because he's a bit slow but I could live with it. I'd be looking to pick up a WR in #2 or early #3.

3rd: I like your first 2 choices there. We are going to need a CB prospect no matter what happens in FA and an OT to replace OMG at a minimum.

4th: Was thinking about Cole as well and would consider him in the latter-3rd too. He's one of the more experienced LBs in college football and played solidly at outside and middle. Like him as a Hunter Hilly-type.

6th/7th: Straight BPAs, no problem with taking flyers here on those 2 positions especially.

My only quibble is why do some people here still want to draft another safety? The safety class this year is very weak and we have youth there already. What we need is an experienced player to replace bust Meriweather and compete with Wright...and there's several good ones likely to be available in FA for no more $ than was wasted on BM. And also there is the possibility of CGraham competing for a SS spot. We actually just need to sign a FA to upgrade BM (not exactly difficult) and we have all we need beyond that already on the roster. Drafting a safety would be a waste of a pick better used elsewhere IMO.

Yep, there far better to be had in this years free agent group than the draft. Most of the draftees in this years class don't even rate above a 3rd round pick and some not even that high.

but lets see your "perfect draft"
Perfect for me would probably start with Reiff falling into our laps at #19 but that ain't gonna happen. After that Coples and Kirkpatrick would be nice but I don't think either drop that far either unless the Combine reveals some flaws.

I've gotta feeling that if we stay put we'll have a choice between a WR, OT, and a DE and all of those are needs. I guess at that point I take whoever rates highest on my board at one of those positions but preferably OT or DE. Floyd is targeted to go around #19 but I still think he's a risk at that spot. I'd rather we solved our WR need in FA and added a 2nd tier guy in the draft. Good LT's and DE's won't be around for long and we should have a good shot at one in our spot.
