Yes SF could have won that game but let's face it two TD's came on big pass plays to Davis and without that their offense was kind of impotent. I can't buy into thinking that a team who went 0-13 in 3rd down conversions had any business even staying in the game let alone winning it. SF's defense was every bit as good as NY's on that day and that kept them in the game.

He could have simplified his whole article a lot by just pointing out what you said in one sentence. "We need a better pass rush and better receivers". The only problem with that is it would have been a very short article and I think sometimes these guys must get paid by the word. Anytime they can take 3 paragraphs to say what they could have in one sentence they do. That's what sports columnists do otherwise they'd be called sports sentencenists, LOL.

Sorry Wolf, not trying to be a jerk. I do agree with you but I still like to post this guys stuff. Sometimes he can be pretty funny if you enjoy his particular brand of humor.
you know that this is exactly what the Bears/Tice want for the next year?

ate some clock with strong running game and give the D some more time off the field. If we throw, we throw deep and make big plays. We will be like SF was this year, but we have a better QB than them. Maybe need to pick up a better TE for this, but I think we won't see Speath back. Davis + drafted guy or FA like Shockey would work for me

How 'bout we face the fact the Giants, the team we are suppose to emulate, needed a bit luck and OT to beat a defective, off-night, destine to fail, team like the 49ers...if the 49ers were really that bad and the Giant really that much better it should have been a blowout, not a long drawn out, hard fought battle that need OT to decide it...taking everything away from the 49ers (a good team, with flaws) and handing to the Giants (an equally good team, with their own flaws) on a golden, predetermined platter is intellectually bankrupt, not to meantion just plain unfair...there are so many moving, complex interconnected parts, you can't boil the reason the 49ers lost and Giants won to three good pass rushers and three better WRs...not that I disagree with those being big needs for us, but using the 49ers/Giants game to somehow "prove" that point is a load of easy to write, worthless crap...

Enjoy it all you like Soul (hey, I enjoy Glee, so who I am to judge ), it's still mindless, pseudo-intellectual garbage masquerading as witty, insightful analysis....I think we both know that if the 49ers would have won, Mr. Rosenbloom would have simply switch the teams and player names around and written how we need to be more like the 49ers, maybe how having a pass catching TE is the key to victory....yawn, boring, tedious....

The Bears have VERY good ST and the 49ers not so much. Their ST was the main reason they lost IMHO.

I wasn't privileged to watch the NFC Championship Game my DIRECTV box acted up all day, but from what I saw on highlights, San Francisco pretty much played its brand of game, and anyone who didn't think the game was going to be a low-scoring, defensive slobber-knocker had to have been kidding himself. I remember what legendary University of Tennessee football coach Bob Neyland said in his maxims for playing the perfect: he preached special teams, which, as he worded almost verbatim, is where the breaks are made. San Francisco did come through with their special teams unit, and the Giants did.
